why Sister Concern? why not brother concern

Dear Friends,

Why subsidiary Companies or companies operatng in same group are called as sister concern? why not brother companies?

It could be because of one reason that all inanimate objects are referred as of feminine gender. So, companies are also feminine and related companies are called as sister company.

Dear Friends

Inanimate objects are always referred to as "sister". The term sister company has come from the navy where ships from the same fleet would be referred to as a "sister ship" due to the simple fact that's ships are referred to as female object.
