Hi Nicolas,

Yes, but after a good start to the year, things since have not gone to plan, so I'm not sure when the next update will be - only that there will definitely be one.

You can view the latest developments at http://www.ibrowse-dev.net/historylog/next.php

All my spare time for the next couple of months is probably going to end up being spent managing the transfer of all my websites, including IBrowse. Don't be alarmed if the website goes down sometime in the next couple of weeks. Unfortunately, my hosting provider of 11 years has decided to cancel my account with 30 days notice, because they are apparently too incompetent to transfer my account to their new hosting platform, so I'm currently trying to find a decent place to move everything to.

CSS might be very complicated and ressource hungry!

Glad to see iBrowse keeps going. I really enjoy to still be able to use my Amiga in 2024.

I am a simple user. The developers might have clue.

Hello Oliver ^^)
have a look at Hetzner, they have great prices (even for dedicated
servers) great service and plenty of dcs :)

here you can find cloud or your how real server for prices that blows
some concurrence away ;)

just have a look at their 'auction servers' you can find beefy real
beasts for nearly peanuts a month :) and keep full control over you severs.

Amigalement,

Jeff

Hello!

Any news about iBrowse's "next" ?

Now that I have a 040 with plenty of Fast,  can use iBrowse more "seriously"!

IS there any tips (or some tutorial) to get the most of the browser ? Get it even faster ?

Cheers

Unfortunately, this year has gone even less to plan than last year, but my aim is to release IBrowse 3.1 next. There are still some issues that need fixing, that I was in the middle of doing before I had to temporarily suspend development. I thought they were fixed, but it turns out they were not!

Maybe others can give some tips to make it run faster, but it should be pretty fast as per the default settings. Depending on your system, if you don't have a gfxcard, using a screen with few colours will make it faster.

Hi!

I'm afraid it's not so much about FAST RAM and CPU as it is about supporting internet standards. Because for example HTTPS and AmiSSL support will be a huge performance killer.

Regards,
Jarek

Sure. I tried some patches ike SystemPath and better Datatypes (WarpXX). It improves stuff I think.
It's already pretty fast for simple pages considering encrpytions overhead and a poor 68040.

Whilst this is certainly true, IBrowse does make use of everything available to ensure HTTPS connections are as fast as they can be (0-RTT and reusing established HTTPS connections for multiple transfers). What we really need is some 68K assembler experts to write optimised versions of the most important SSL algorithms (like has been done for PowerPC) to use in AmiSSL, because there is potential for large performance increases there.

Some potential speed enhancement options to explore:

Warp Datatypes could speed up some aspects of the IBrowse experience.  Any application using datatypes to handle image decoding could benefit.

I've been working with video editing and MovieShop more lately.  For some image formats that MovieShop doesn't natively support, I can use a commodity from Aminet called CoolIO.  It's a loader wedge that will use datatypes to extend image support to applications.  For example, I can use CoolIO to convert PNG files to IFF24 for MovieShop.  Once set up, CoolIO works transparently.  I can just do the usual import in MovieShop.

There are 040/060 patcher programs like CyberPatcher (Phase5) and OxyPatcher that can speed up some things.  I'm not sure how much for IBrowse if it's already optimized for 040, but worth a try.
CyberPatcher is available here:
OxyPatcher was commercial, I'm not sure if it's still available, but you can check around.

There are math library replacements, like HSMathLibs.

MuRedox is an alternative option for 040/060 library speed ups:

A 24bit display card could improve the visual experience.  P96 RTG software has expanded supported for various Amiga graphics cards.  Some long unsupported cards like the Retina-II have finally been added too.

If you have an Amiga with a Z3 bus, the X-Surf-100 will provide faster internet access.

There's also the combination card option, ZZ9000.  You have 24bit display, USB, Ethernet in one ZORRO card.

Thanks !

I have an A1200 with ACA1240/33 and 256 MB Fast and "clean" OS 3.1 which I patched with SystemPatch, FastIEEE and TLSFMen. Also with WarpDT.

I will have a loot to CoolIO.

Cheers

ok. So Biggest speed improvement potential is in the SSL implementation.

What is planed in 3.1 ?

Cheers
PS: Thanks a lot for maintaining iBrowse !

Ok, sure. Lives goes on !

Thanks for your reply.

It's pretty fast for "simple" site like amiga-news.de and some forums- Of course, we know that CSS and others modern stuffs are way more difficult to get.

Cheers
Nicolas
