IBpy talks to IB TWS. Can it talk to the IB Gateway (ie. w/out the

Yes, why not? It's the same interface, just without the overhead.

I have tried to talk to IB Gateway with IbPy on two platforms (Linux
and Windows) and could not get it to work.

it works, johan is correct; its the same. i haven't messed with it
since october but that's how i was connecting, but i do think i needed
to change the connection port to 4001, which is different than the
default tws port.
