Just as an fyi... ealry mornin benefits enrollment has a 0 wait time. It took me all of a minute or two to get a live person before 9am EST. I think its likely b/c the rest of the U.S. hasn't woken up yet. If you have yet to call to get your insurance, early morning is the time to do it it seems, I know yesterday afternoon I gave up several times waiting.

Hi All,

I'm wondering if you folks got a different story on continuing benefits
than I did.

I was told I'll get a letter in the mail which I can then respond to in
order to continue medical benefits. If I choose to continue IBM
benefits it will be retroactive to my termination date. This is
consistent with the doc Mike G handed us.

Is there a better plan?

Thanks
Joe

I called employee services.. chose the medical/dental/vision option and pushed through to an operator.. at that point I asked to sign up for TMP/COBRA and they had me enrolled within a few minutes. I should be getting a bill at the beginning of next week.

when it asks you to login... use the same login info you use for netbenefits.com... its not clear, but thats what they are asking you for, for letters in your password type the number on your phone that corresponds.

Interesting side note, the same IBM PPO+ costs less for me under TMP/COBRA than it did when I worked at IBM.

Other interesting side note, its not retroactive according to the person I talked to, so my benefits were active as of this morning, 7/16... good reason to do it sooner rather than later.

good, I was hoping the person i talked to was misinformed on the retroactive portion, sounds like she was.

I signed up for continuing benefits yesterday. Here are a couple details that I was told:

1) You can continue coverage with your existing plan, but cannot select a different plan until open enrollment.

2) The coverage was described as being retroactive to the date when coverage was discontinued due to separation (which would be the 15th for most of us)

3) Before they can process the request for continued coverage, they need to receive something from IBM that indicates your official separation date. The woman who helped me indicated they received that info electronically on July 13. Based on that comment, I'm guessing that maybe it takes a day from when you separate before they can process your request.

Joe,

You can do what IBM suggested but if you have any upcoming doctors appointments the doctor may get the claim rejected until the coverage extension has been processed.   If you call, things get processed faster and this is why most of us are calling.   Even calling it in, I was told that the paperwork won't be in place until the 24th.   If you have appointments before then, the claims may need to be submitted more than once to get accepted.
