I've put a scan of this book on the Internet Archive:

It's quite useful to have around.

cheers,

I'm sure it's useful but it isn't  out of copyright. A couple of minutes of searching reveals that Alfred Bork was a professor of Comp Sci at UC Irvine who died in 2007. His collected papers are in the UC Library here: http://pdf.oac.cdlib.org/pdf/uci/spcoll/f035.pdf

That page includes a professional biography of his very impressive career, but no personal data that would guide one to heirs. Whoever got his estate owns the copyright on his works, at least to any he didn't assign to the UC system. Whichever, it's a bit dicey of you to post a complete book without permission. Doesn't TIA ask about that?

David,

You are correct, the Copyright does not expire until 2077, but as it was printed in 1968 and as far as I can tell has never been re-printed, and is very unlikely to be re-printed, how are Alfred’s heirs going to make any money from the book?

Even so if they wish THEY (or the publisher Addison-Wesley, now inform IT https://www.informit.com/imprint/index.aspx?st=61085) but not YOU (unless you are an heir) may request that the information be removed from the Archive (its right at the bottom)

https://archive.org/about/terms.php

so its up to them to find it and ask for its removal. As I said above I can’t see who will benefit. I can’t see Inform IT re-publishing so neither they or the family will make. There are no second hand copies available?

Of course if Stewart had sent them the Physical book it would appear in the library and we would be free to borrow a “virtual” copy. There are a few like that in there.

I have no idea how the law treats such things. That’s between the Internet Archive , its lawyers, and the various library associations.

I know. Almost everything related to the 1130 is still in copyright, so we should never look at anything to do with it again.

The book is out of print. The book is of interest to a vanishingly small group of people, most of whom are here. The scanned book belongs on the Internet Archive.

Pretty much all the manuals we get from bitsavers are not out of copyright.

So far, as well as I know, no-one has asked them to be removed for copyright reasons.
I believe IBM even goes there to get copies of old manuals that they don't have anymore.

Is it different with a single author instead of many authors?

Good afternoon

This is a version of BORK's book, in PDF format.
They can observe it and if they are interested in buying it on Amazon.

Best regards.
