I developed a procedure for those who have a working IBM 1130 but the card reader and/or the line printer is not currently operational. DMS normally reads the monitor control records from the principle card reader and prints monitor output such as // JOB headings on the principle line printer.
There is a way to temporarily cause DMS to print the monitor output on the console printer (typewriter) and to read monitor control card images from the console keyboard. However, a DMS cold start begins attempting to use the missing/broken peripherals.
This procedure lets you boot up a cartridge with DMS then enter some words into memory that leave you with the monitor reading from the keyboard and outputting to the typewriter, after it boots trying to read from a card reader.
