A computer programming instructor uses an IBM 1130 to teach the FORTRAN IV computer language to students at the Boston Latin School, October 4, 1966. He also taught the APL language. The 16-bit IBM 1130 Computing System, introduced in 1965, was IBM's least expensive computer at the time and was marketed to price-sensitive, computer-intensive technical markets such as education and engineering. The Latin school's US$41,000 version included an inexpensive removable disk drive (not visible in the photo). The machine used Solid Logic Technology (SLT) compact circuits.
