We've been using multiple units of the GPSmap 62sc for years. This year, uploaded waypoints are not visible on the GPS units (multiple units with the same issue). The waypoints are visible in Basecamp and other software (DNRGPS), and the .gpx files are in the right folder on the device, but the device does not seem to be able to recognize they are there. Device software updated today and issue remains. The only change from previous years I can think of is we changed our operating system from Win 7 to 10. Waypoints recorded by the device are visible, but not if they are taken off and then put back on.

They're not visible in the waypoint manager or on the map page. They also cannot be deleted from the device using the delete function in the waypoint manager. The device seems not to be able to detect them but they can still be uploaded off the device.

Firstly, you should move all of your waypoints, track and route files to your computer. Delete the GPX folder on the device and an gpx files on an SD card if in use. Try creating a waypoint on the device and see if it appears in the manager. Try uploading a single waypoint to the location - device or sd card - that you normally do and see if it shows up on the device.

The issue with the units began prior to update. There is lots of space on the device, just a handful of waypoints. I tried the reset just now (thanks for the suggestion) but it didn't work. After reset the waypoints were still present on the gps and the waypoint manager still does not recognize them. I can delete the waypoints off the device using Windows file explorer, and when I upload .gpx files from my laptop using a couple different software programs it all seems fine, but the waypoint manager does not recognize them. I'm not using a sim card.

That's really weird if it's happening on multiple units. You say the waypoints are visible in BaseCamp but also mention in other software. How are you sending these waypoints? Are you using BaseCamp? If not do you get the problem when you do? If so can you attach a relevant gpx file?

I'm not sure what you deleted through windows. If you didn't do the following try deleting the GPX folder within the Garmin folder on the device. Disconnect the device from the computer. Go through an on/off power cycle (wait for map to appear). Then turn on the unit, establish satellite lock and try creating a waypoint using the Mark key on the device. Does this waypoint show up in the Waypoint manager and on the device?

Yesterday I tried sending a couple different gpx files using both Basecamp and another software program called DNRGPS that we've been using for years. In both programs I was using the upload function and received no error message during that process. The uploaded files are visible on the device when viewed using Windows file manager but no visible on the device through waypoint manager or the map page. This morning I tried the reset again, I wanted to see if waypoints recently collected with the device would be deleted. They were not, but since that second reset my laptop will no longer recognize the GPS. I get an error message. When I get to our office today I'm going to experiment with some of our GPSmap 60's.

OK so sorted out the connection issue (it was the cable). Original issue still remains unsolved. The issue is consistent on three different GPSmap 62sc units. I tested my upload process on one of our older units (GPSmap 60CSx) and it worked no problem so it is definitely not the laptop, cable, or software. It is something specific to the 62sc units. I tried deleting the GPX folder as suggested. The unit was able to record waypoints and display them in the waypoint manager, but as before when the same waypoints are downloaded to the laptop, deleted from the device using waypoint manager, then uploaded back to the device, they are not visible in the waypoint manager or map. This is an issue since we need to upload waypoints collected on a previous day to multiple units.

It's still odd that this would happen to three units at the same time. You stated that creating a waypoint on the device was visible in the Waypoint manager. If you turn the unit off then back on does it still show up? I would not hurt to scan the device for virus/malware. A long shot would be that something was placed on the devices that is interfering with it's normal boot. You can also try exporting the waypoints from BaseCamp to a gpx file (name it Waypoints.gpx) and try moving it to the device Garmin>GPX folder via windows.

I have been creating waypoints. I have kept the native name on some and renamed others. The waypoints show up in the waypoint manager. Some waypoints do not show up from the waypoint manager using show map or transfer in the gpx file.

I had the same problem - miles off. Apparently new to this unit is that the waypoint records the coordinates of where the cursor on the map is located, not where you are standing. So if you are on the map screen and move the cursor and then go to record a waypoint, it records the cursor location and not yours. This is so people can record a waypoint in a location other than where they are standing. If this is the case, your track file should be accurate but the waypoint off because it is not a receiving problem.

This behavior is by design. When you are panning the map, the waypoint is marked at the location of the pointer. As you say, it is intended to allow you to mark a remote location, presumably with the intent of navigating there.

I created some waypoints in Basecamp and transferred them to the micro sd card of my 62st. They show up fine when I view the contents of the card in Basecamp, but they do not show up when I look at the waypoint manager on the actual gps. Are you supposed to only transfer waypoints to the unit itself, and not to the micro sd card in the unit? If so, why does BC allow you to transfer them to the micro sd card in the first place, and why to they show up fine when you view the contents of the card in Basecamp?

Can anyone confirm that the Garmin 62 series cannot read custom waypoints from the micro sd card -- i.e. that custom waypoints need to be transferred to the gps unit itself and NOT the micros sd card?

So all this seems like if you transfer you waypoints from mapsouce to your microsd card it works, but, if you do it the second time it'll delete your first transfer. It writes a new userdata.gpx file each time you transfer from mapsource.

Make a file on your microsd card named L:\garmin\gpx. drag and drop your waypoint files into it or transfer from mapsouce your waypoints knowing it's going to overwrite the userdata.gpx file each time.

I simply used the "send to" command to send the waypoints to the micro sd card. If memory serves, the waypoint file did transfer to the same folder you described -- i.e. Garmin\GPX -- but unlike your test, they did not show up on the unit. They DID show up in Basecamp, however.

The result of my tests is as follows: If I use Basecamp to "send" the waypoints to the GPS, they show up on the unit. If I instead "send" the waypoints to the micro sd card, they do NOT show up on the GPS.

Then in the details pane left bottom select any waypoint or track and use the Send to function to add any waypoint or track to that new list in the library. They are copied, not moved. Several waypoints/tracks can be selected at once.

As far as I can tell, Basecamp is saving them to the correct folder -- i.e. Garmin\GPX. They simply don't show up when I try to view them with the gps. They save to the same folder on the gps, but they ARE visible. Note that other files, like birdseye images or custom maps, show up fine when I send them to the micro sd card. It's just the waypoints that don't work from the card.

I created a waypoint in Basecamp, hope I did it the same way you do, just find a location on the map near my house, New waypoint, change the name. Used Send to, Removable device (the SD card) on just that waypoint.

Just to check the behaviour. Does this proove that it is possible? I can imagine that it is not quite satisfying because it doesn't seem to work with you. I did not change any configuration settings in Basecamp yet, and my Map settings on the 62st are still default. I created the waypoint with just changing the name, did nothing with the default Symbol or Display mode. The Basecamp version is 3.0.5.

Thanks for testing this and reporting the results. I don't understand what's happening, because I tried it a couple times and repeatedly found that if I sent waypoints to the msd card, they didn't show up in the waypoint manager of the gps. If I instead sent them to the gps, they showed up fine.

Make trip planning simple for your next outdoor adventure with MapSource Trip & Waypoint Manager. This computer software allows you to transfer waypoints, routes and tracks between your Garmin device and your computer. For reference, Trip & Waypoint Manager provides general worldwide maps that include interstates, motorways, political boundaries, principal cities and towns, oceans and other general reference details to place your GPS data in context.

The ability to mark and save a location, or use a saved location for navigation, is an essential function for any handheld GPS unit. My older Garmin 60Cx does a great job at this, and using it as a model should have made the 62s comparable if not better. But Garmin made some bizarre choices with the 62s that make its waypoint functionality markedly inferior to the 60Cx.

These are my devices: Garmin etrex Legend (it's the glittery blue one, fairly old) and ArcGIS 9.3. I'd like to upload the waypoints into ArcGIS 9.3 but the computer doesn't even recognize the device. The Garmin device software is up to date, and neither Garmin BaseCamp or GPSBabel could locate the device. I have a feeling it's the connector cable, but I'm not entirely familiar with this type of cable (not USB or mini-USB). It plugs into the back of my desktop and the contact point of the plug is large and shaped like a trapezoid with very rounded edges. There are two rows of pins in the "trapezoid", with five on the bottom and four on the top. Actually the pins are in the computer port and the plug is female. The GPS side connection seems to be Garmin's proprietary four pin connector.
