Hi,

I have to uninstall the update installer 6.1.0.13 as I have to install 6.1.0.17 version of update installer. Our OS is LINUX. I have done the below steps and not sure whether it is uninstalled or not

i. log in as root

ii.navigate to UpdateInstaller folder

iii. I didn't find uninstall script under UpdateInstaller (as in instructions for uninstalling update installer in ibm site). But I have find the uninstall folder. Navigate in to that folder. Find uninstall command.

iv. I have run the ./uninstall command. It run successfully but I didn't find any log entries for successfully uninstallation.

Please let me know how to confirm whether my uninstallation of update installer is succesfull or not. I think that I have to delete the UpdateInstaller folder after successfuly uninstalltion of existing update installater. I need to install the latest update installer after deleting the Update Installer folder. Please can any one help me by confirming this. Also let me know whether I am doing the right steps for uninstalling the update installer.

Please I have to uninsall the update installer in AIX box too.

Advance thanx for your help.

Thanks,

Rama

Hi Rama

You can go to the folder of UpdateInstaller/logs/*install*

Inside that you can find log.txt. If can find the log info of your uninstallation .It should be INSTCONFSUCCESS if your uninstallation is success.

1)If you only need to install the fixpack version of 6.1.0.17. you uninstall the previous update installer.

2) You can rename the existing updateinstallater folder. and install the new update installer and start proceed with Updating the fixpack...I have done lot of upgradation by the same way.. There is no problem there because of this.

Then go to the Updateinstallaer/logs/install/log.txt and

Check the last line of the file whether it is successfully installed or not. The INSTCONFSUCCESS indicates the updateinstaller was successfully installed.

Thanking you for your email. I didn't see any updated entry in the logs for successful uninstalltion of UpdateInstallation /opt/WebSphere/v6_1/UpdateInstaller/logs. I have run the ./uninstall by hoping that update installer will uninstall

and not sure reason for failure. I have checked the logs files but no entries for uninstallation.

Any idea that would help me to resolve this?

Thanks again for your information.

Thanks,

Rama

Hi Rama

Please check the log file info on /opt/WebSphere/v6_1/UpdateInstaller/logs/install/log.txt. This is place where the installation and uninstallation log can be found..

I hope the following steps can be used for update into 6.1.0.17

1) Move the old updateinstaller into updateinstaller.old

2) Install new updateinstaller and install the fix pack.

3) Check the status of the installation by 2 ways.

a) Check the log file info at /opt/WebSphere/v6_1/UpdateInstaller/logs/install/log.txt.

b) Check through the version.info command

Please check and let us know if there is any issue.

Thanks

hi rama

Step 1 -- Pls uninstal the software i.e if it is AIX use the installp
-u or other option to get the update installer un installed.

Step 2.-- If there is a previous version of update installer is there,
dont worry just rename the directory & try instaling the new update
installler
a) if you are using a GUI by some X windows tool you can find out in
the gui it self

b) If you are using a Silent Installation you can set the log path
in the response file itself...

c) make sure you choose the right update installer.

Step 3. Assuming that update installer is sucessfully installed you
can check that using lslpp -l | grep < update installer >

Step 4. once you invoke the update installer via GUI make sure you set
the display variable ECHO $DISPLAY & setenv Display < Display Variable
>

Step 5.. above all these pls cross check the JDK version coz for all
6.1 fixpack 9 & above requires higher JDK version some SR7 or SR9 i
believe ensure to check the version too you can see that under the
java directory under tools check for ./java - version

Step 6. while running the update instaler ifself you can see the list
of previously installed fix packs & e fixes... based on the higher the
version you can unstall the older onces based on your requirement. it
is for sure that the new fixpack has all the update you can very that
in FTP site of ibm.. which will list you the components that are added
ro modified via this fixpack

Step 7. Once you install the fix pack, make sure you install in both
DM & Appservs cos the it depnds on the senario of how the webspeher
binaries are used.

Step 8 . Restart all the nodes & DM to get the fixpack change to
refelect

Step 9 Once restarted you can very using the versionifo command under
the bin dir of all the nodes & DM or you can check the DMGR console @
welcome page & Application severs page you can see the version changed
to 6.1.0.17

this should be all set

The more critical is we need to make sure that correct jdk version &
right update installer is used.

Thanx
