Does Websphere Application Server work in MAC OS X? Is it officially supported by IBM?

No, and no.

Although you cannot run the WebSphere Application server directly on the Mac OS X. You can run WebSphere Application Server - Community Edition v2.0 on the Unix side of Mac OS X.

Mac OS X is not a supported platform for WAS-CE and it's quite different
from WAS-Base.

Now, if one can arrange to run WAS-CE on OS X, then can't it be done also
for WAS-Base ?

Although the Mac OS X OS is not a supported platform for WAS-CE, UNIX is. <br />
<br />
WAS-CE runs on the <u>UNIX</u> side of a Mac machine.

Yes, I understand that Mac OS X per-se is not a *supported* platform but
it's *possible* to run WAS-CE on the Unix side of Mac OS X.

My question is: considering it's possible to run WAS-CE on the Unix Mac OS
X, do you know if it's also possible to run a "regular" WAS the same way ?
If so, it can help "sundarradnus" who opened this thread.

I don't know of a way to run WAS-base the same way, as the WAS-CE version, on a Mac.<br />
<br />
Supported Operating system(s):<br />
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Linux pSeries, Linux zSeries, OS/390, OS/400, Solaris, Windows, i5/OS, z/OS<br />
<br />
<a class="jive-link-external" href="http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&#38;uid=swg27006921">http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&#38;uid=swg27006921</a><br />
<br />
I would think that you maybe able to run the HP-UX version. I have <b>not</b> tried the HP-UX version. <br />
Secondly, there are only two versions of WAS-base 6.1 trail software available, Linux x86Series and Windows.<br />
<a class="jive-link-external" href="http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downloads/ws/was/?S_TACT=105AGX10&#38;S_CMP=LP">http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downloads/ws/was/?S_TACT=105AGX10&#38 ;S_CMP=LP</a><br />
<br />
So, if the hardware requirement <b>has</b> to be a Mac machine, I would suggest one of two options (both would require a Mac-Intel machine). <br />
<br />
1. Load Linux on the Mac and run the Linux x86Series version of WAS-Base.<br />
2. Use bootcamp, making the Mac a dual-boot machine. Load Windows XP or 2000 and run the Windows version of WAS-Base.<br />
<br />
In any case, there maybe issues when calling for support for WAS when running on a Mac machine.

Which platform edition of WAS-CE did you run on Unix / Mac OS X ?

I would think that the same platform edition of WAS-Base could be tried.

Yes, there is a difference between "works" and "supported", but the initial
poster seemed to understand that.

Already answered. Read the thread.<br />

<br />
Paul, from IBM, already answered the original question with, "No, and No."<br />
<br />
I was merely trying to present and alternative.

I think we fail to understand each other.

Nevermind...

Why DOESN'T IBM make this possible? It seems this would be nice for those of us who are NOT PC, but still are developers.

I'd suspect because it's not a big enough market. At the moment, the
development tools are only on Windows and Linux.
