Hi All,

Kindly give me the solution for changing the profile name in WASv6.1. I'm not sure whether we can change it or not but I heard that we can change it. Please help me. Thanks.

Sumit,

What operating system are you running your WAS on? One easy
unconventional way to accomplish this is to run a global remove/
replace (create your own script if one not available). This way you
can replace the old profile name with the new one.

I have done this successfully on a different situation. I was trying
to avoid going through the whole WAS installation process by moving an
entire WAS directory on a different server and remove/replace hostname/
cell/node/server names. All these just to avoid a new installation:).
I have a Linux/UNIX script from one of the IBM consultants to
accomplish this. However it was a 20 lines basic shell script that I
ended up modifying, because a small error.

There might be other simpler way to accomplish this, I cannot really
think right now:)

Gabriel

Gabriel,
But that does not mean "rename"....
if you do that wont we lose the data inside the "InstalledApps"?....
Anyhow.. officially IBM has not given an option to rename a profile
for WAS 6.1.

"thats what she said" ;)

Yes, you can.

Please refer to this document (very useful):

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&context=SSEQTP&q1=7007419&uid=swg27007419&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lang=en

Best regards!

Life is beautiful,
I am not sure how to put it, but rename means rename:) You replace the
old name with the new name. Does it make sense?
Let me know,
Gabriel

Hi, unfortunately there is no easy way to change the profile name. If you want to try you would have to change the XML files in both the base WebSphere directory and profile directly. If the profile has a node federated then you would have to unfederate the node and change it. This is not recommended.

Brian

I agree: it's not easy. But it's possible though!

It's not necessary... You can change profile name without unfederating.

Sumit, have you tried the procedure described in the doc I mentioned
before? What you need is described in details in Chapter 3 ("Changing
the node name of WSAS node profile").

This doc is officially issued by IBM.
