When I asked the local boutique to send my newly bought pen back to Hamburg for a nib exchange, I also offered to give them the warranty booklet, to prove to Montblanc that the pen was still eligible for a free nib exchange (that is, within six weeks from the date of purchase). They said it wasn't necessary, because the serial number will tell Montblanc all they'll need to know. They took just the pen, and three weeks later it came back with a new nib.

Montblanc does keep a database and for some pens there are now two numbers associated to each pen; one on a credit card thing in the box and one on the pen. Sometimes the card is written by hand on a white card with the number and name of the nib tester. Not common, but a couple of recent pens have included this curious addition.

Transfer speeds from the Augmented Paper to the Montblanc Hub app vary depending on a number of factors. These include the number of pages stored, the kind of content on each page and the type of device being used.

We have created video tutorials to show you how best to clean and fill your Montblanc fountain pen. We recommend cleaning your fountain pen about every three months to ensure perfect writing performance. This is especially important if the ink has dried due to lack of use or the power supply system is blocked, you will have to use a different colour of ink or the ink flow could become uneven or stop altogether. For cleaning, use only lukewarm water without additives. Condensation cannot be avoided after the cleaning process inside the cap. Therefore, always make sure to clean the nib and the inside of the cap with a damp, lint-free cloth. To prevent leakage, keep the writing instrument completely filled with new ink and carry the fountain pen with the nib facing upwards. See the dedicated section for more information.

I've earned an used Meisterstuck Montblanc Ballpoint Pen and I was wondering if there is any way to use the serial number that is engraved to the ring above the clip to certify that it is an original one.

Based on the deterioration and looking at the clip, I am lead to believe that your pen is not original. In fact I'm quite sure that it is not an original montblanc. Regarding the refill, the rollerball won't fit for sure, regarding an original ballpoint refill, it's impossible to say... you'll just have to try it for yourself. Posting some pics of the refill that came with it might help.

No, I don't think there is any way to check them without actually going to an official montblanc shop. As a rule of thumb, chinese knockouts seem to have serials with lot's of 2,3 and 8's as they are chinese lucky numbers. Furthermore, if you google the serial number and something comes up, it's likely that there are many pens with the same serial, which is a good indication that it's not original (even though montblanc is known to use the same serials for different pens).

I have a Mont Blanc Meisterstuck fountain pen with serial number KY1944219,but Richemont says the packaging is a fake but won't say if the pen is genuine or not....Is this serial number genuine or not,as I bought this pen in good faith.. Regards Patrick Moore

Photos will help, and even if it looks real in the photos, no guarantee can be given. More often than not, if the packaging is fake, the pen has a high probability of being fake as well. My reasoning is, if the person that sold you the pen didn't recognize the fake package, he/she will certainly not recognize a fake pen. Even if the seller is in good faith, they may be making a mistake. It is silly to sell a real montblanc in a fake package consciously.

It has always been like that. It is (at least for me) impossible to detect (good quality) fake montblanc ballpoints on ebay based on photos. Fountain pens are a bit easier, but due to the quality of the photos, sometimes still challenging. Either it is some model that it's not worth faking (el-cheapo 60's and 70's MB fountain pens), or I simply don't buy it.

This is turning into a discussion against eBay. In reality, I don't think eBay has anything to do with it. I encounter fake montblancs even in car boot sales and other situations, with the people that are selling the pens generally not knowing that they are selling a fake. With a bit of common sense bad situations can be avoided. If you want to be 100% sure that you are buying the real deal... go to a Montblanc Boutique and buy it there... Want it cheaper? buy it tax free in the airports.

The serial numbers on fakes are not unique, though they should be on genuine Montblanc pens. There is no publicly available database that identifies a particular pen. However, the number on a genuine pen may have been copied onto a large batch of clones, some of which find their way onto auction sites.

I once read somewhere (can't remember where) that all supposed "Montblanc" serial numbers beginning with NDL are fake (and MDL come to that.) They were originally used for the original fake Starwalkers. It's not possible for anyone other than Montblanc to identify the model of any authentic Montblanc pen from an authentic serial number

Period after opening (PAO). Some cosmetics should be used within a specified period of time after opening due to oxidation and microbiological factors. Their packaging has a drawing of an open jar, inside it, there is a number representing the number of months. In this example, it is 6 months of use after opening.

Thanks all for your input. After everything I read and checked out on the internet, I had it wrapped up as a gift. The serial number kept bothering me for some reason, I thought I saw it before. So I double checked. The serial number popped up on several searches as a counterfeit serial number. But pretty much everything else was spot on. The booklet was quality like some YouTube videos and photos showing 'real' Montblancs, the box, and even the engravings inside the clip! I'm glad I caught it before I shipped it out.

I politely informed the seller that he may want to check his pen, as I just purchased the same pen in black with the same serial number! He stated that his was the original that all the replicas must be based on, because he purchased his pen from a Montblanc dealer!

I'm not sure what else would give this away as a fake, other than that serial number being well known as a counterfeit. The heft of the pen didn't feel like other pens in my collection - S.T. Dupont and a few Watermans. This was my first Montblanc and it was a gift for my brother - which sadly - I ended up not getting him one, but resorted to getting him an S.T. Dupont which I could identify as real. I would have to defer to the experts on this forum to see if they could spot other variances from the real Montblanc.
