Biochemistry research student here who is sick of battling with excel to plot simple binding affinity assays with decent curves. What's my best alternative? I know GraphPad Prism is a good one, is it worth the student license fee? Someone plotted a curve for me in Prism and it's so much better, but not cheap even for just one student account.

Yale ITS would like to make you aware of an opportunity to acquire Prism data analysis software at no cost to you. ITS has entered into a bulk licensing agreement with GraphPad, making Prism 6 software available at no charge to Yale faculty, students, and staff who have data analysis and presentation needs.

GraphPad Prism was originally designed for experimental biologists in medical schools and drug companies, especially those in pharmacology and physiology. Prism is now used much more broadly by all kinds of biologists, as well as social and physical scientists. More than 200,000 scientists in over 110 countries rely on Prism to analyze, graph and present their scientific data. It is also widely used by undergraduate and graduate students. GraphPad Prism is available for Windows and Macintosh operating systems for download via the ITS Software Library.

While there is no local technical support for the package you can find a variety of support tools via the Graphpad website.

If you have any problem accessing the Software Library or downloading the package, please contact the ITS Help Desk. For questions about licensing, please contact Ann Brainard-Dougan.

*NOTE to STUDENTS: In some cases, Departments will be able to purchase a copy of Prism for their students. Please contact your Professor and/or Department Administrator to find out if they can purchase your license from the school's budget. Please check with your Professor prior to placing your order. You will not be reimbursed if you purchase using your own credit card.

No, GraphPad Prism software is not available through OHSU Library. However, instructors using Prism in their courses can request free licenses for their students. More information can be found on GraphPad's website: Get Free Course Licenses for Your Students.

Enrollment is open three times a year (fall, spring, and summer semesters). Students apply for software licenses one week prior to the start of the semester, through one week after the semester begins. Licenses will be issued to students on Friday the first and second weeks of open enrollment.

Any license acquired from the Graduate School can only be used on students' personal laptops and devices. Software must not be used on UTHealth-managed and owned desktops and laptops. If your lab computer needs software, then the lab should provide it.

GraphPad Prism is a program designed to combine scientific graphing, comprehensive curve fitting (non-linear regression etc), understandable statistics, and data organisation. Monash University has a site license for use by students, staff and faculty members.

For technical issues, please contact Lucas Steinbeck at steinbeckl wustl.edu or Marcy Vana at vanam wustl.edu. For billing inquiries, licensing questions, or transfers, email prism-licensing email.wustl.edu.

New BGS students are given their choice of a free Windows or Macbook laptop when coming to Penn. More details and sign-up forms are sent to students in the summer before orientation. The BGS laptop policy can be found here.

If students are in need of a short-term loan, Penn Libraries allows borrowing of tablets and laptops for in-library and take home use, ranging from 4 hours to up to 3 days with renewal options. Please see their website to review which libraries offer these services and how to access them.

Penn offers a rich array of research resources through its many centers and institutes. In addition, the Perelman School of Medicine is home to many core facilities for research. The Biotech Commons is another important resource for BGS students; it includes an extensive collection of electronic journals and databases, 3D and poster printing, study space, workshops, and reference services.

Their mission is to provide accessible and high-quality statistical support to the Penn trainee community, and provide opportunities for Biostatistics students to engage with statistical collaborations in the community. BSAC is made possible through the support from GGEB and the Division of Biostatistics.

BGS students may obtain a free annual subscription for Prism software to download on their own computer. Each spring, students are notified by email of the opportunity and enroll via a form, but students may request access throughout the year by completing this form. If you currently have Prism but want to switch it to a new computer, please contact Candace Cain.

BGS students may obtain a free license to Adobe Creative Cloud. Each fall, students are notified by email of the opportunity and enroll via a form, but students may request access throughout the year by completing this form.

Penn Software Licensing provides an array of statistical and other software to students free of charge, including MATLAB, SPSS, and Qualtrics. Students interested in obtaining a MATLAB license should email licenses upenn.edu the following information: HostID, operating system, and computer user name. See the following instructions for help locating this information.

The Penn Libraries provide access to a Virtual Computer Lab (vLab) for students to access software applications normally accessible in Library computer labs. Additional information about software available in Penn's Libraries is available here.

As researchers, graduate students are held to many of the same policies and expectations of faculty and staff researchers. Students in BGS undertake lab safety training organized by the office of Environmental Health and Radiation Safety. Students also undertake supplemental lab-specific training in topics including animal research and human subjects research in accordance with their research projects. All students must undertake HIPAA training, including annual refreshers.

Many of these policies are covered in BGS training in the Responsible Conduct of Research and Scientific Rigor and Reproducibility. Some of the key research-related policies that apply to BGS students are listed below:

The UmichITAM software-sharing consortium maintains a group license for its members (contact its.software umich.edu for information about joining UmichITAM). Faculty, staff, sponsored affiliates, and students can obtain licenses for university-owned computers in UmichITAM by requesting from their unit IT support. For personally-owned computers of UmichITAM members, licenses can be purchased from the ITS Software Store using a Shortcode.

The University of Sydney provides licences to some commercial software packages for staff and students. Please visit the lists of software available to staff and software available to students through the university to see what software you are eligible to access, and for information on how to obtain access to the available packages.

The Research & Data Services team guides researchers, clinicians, and students in data management and sharing, cleaning and preparation, analysis and visualizations using R, Python, GraphPad Prism, Excel, SPSS, Stata, and SAS.

Michigan Medicine maintains several licenses to support the expansive body of research at U-M, listed below. Applications are available to faculty and staff with certain titles also available to students. Each can be quickly procured or supported by submitting a HITS request via the links below.

BGS students are eligible for a free Prism license upon request. More information about Prism is available here:

Note that BGS offers Prism particularly for its graphing capabilities. With respect to statistical applications, we remind students of the importance of understanding the fundamental properties of any statistical analyses that they undertake. In addition, principles of reproducible research require all analyses to be carefully documented. This involves storing the data in an accessible form and creating a written record so that another researcher can easily replicate the statistical analyses for a particular set of data.

An important skill for behavior analysts is creating graphs that clearly convey outcomes and conform to publication conventions. GraphPad Prism is software designed for creating scientific graphs, but no prior research has empirically evaluated training graphing skills using Prism. Two effective training methods are enhanced written instructions (EWI) and video modeling with voiceover instructions (VMVO), but no single-subject studies have compared the effects of these methods. In this study, we compared the efficacy and social validity of EWI and VMVO for training staff to create graphs using Prism. A single-subject design was employed to compare the effects of the methods on the individual performance of 11 graduate students. EWI and VMVO were both found to be effective, and more participants chose to use EWI.

There are many different types of software available for use by Hunter College students, faculty and/or staff. Below is information on the kinds of software available, the platforms that support them, and the ways of finding or installing it on campus.

Millions of researchers, scholarly writers, students, and librarians use EndNote to search online bibliographic databases, organize their references, images and PDFs in any language, and create bibliographies and figure lists instantly.
