Fortunately, it's possible to use VitaDeploy to re-partition the internal storage, allowing for homebrew installation without a memory card. VitaDeploy can be installed onto the system by following Using HENlo, replacing the system app "NEAR".

This partition will only be 1GB in size. We recommend you use this to then install YAMT for use with an SD2Vita card. This is preferrable, as microSD cards are much cheaper than official Vita memory cards.

You read correctly: a sizable number of PlayStation Vita games will not even boot up unless a Vita memory card is installed in the unit (including the ones I bought: Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Ridge Racer, and Everybody's Golf 6). There are also a number of Vita apps that require a card to run, all of which I cover in my First Look video. It's not that I'm upset that the Vita requires a memory card to play games, it's the fact that Sony has chosen not to include one in the box. CNET has already confirmed with Sony that none of the U.S. Vita SKUs will ship with a card either, save for the $350 First Edition Bundle.

There's no denying that the Vita is a slick and completely capable gaming machine, but Sony's decision to once again go with proprietary media is holding the system back from the get-go. Forcing customers to buy proprietary flash media is a hidden cost that needs to be considered before buying the system. The Vita memory cards will be available in four sizes, ranging from 4GB to 32GB and from $20-$100 in price. At the very least, you'll need to spend $280 plus the price of a game to start playing.

I believe that all Vita saves are saved to your memory card; hence why you need a memory card to use your Vita and play games. Also, I think that a game only appears under "Application Data Management" if a)It was downloaded from the PS Store or b)If it has add-ons or DLC.

So, in a rather confusing move by Sony, I think that all Vita saves are on the memory card, but if you play them by cartridge, they will not appear under Application Data Management, unless it has add-ons or DLC. Or at least, that's how it appears to be on my Vita.

This device became famous for its ability to move the PC gaming experience onto a portable device. SD2Vita is a memory card adapter designed to be used by the PS Vita card slot instead of the proprietary Sony Game memory card.

1. Move the UX0:tai folder into the UR0:tai folder and delete the original UX0: Tai. The UX0:tai folder allows you to use the SD2Vita adapter once the vita card gets inserted.

Sony also released information on the Vita's battery life, and the price of its memory cards. When running a game, a fully charged Vita will yield 3 to 5 hours of play, which equates to around 5 hours of video playback, or 9 hours of music.

* The internal memory card contains space that is available for users and space that is reserved for the system, therefore the actual space that is free for users is smaller than the total space stated in this document.
