discovery of schema via JNDI

Hello,

What is the recommended (or even 'available') approach for discovery
of schema information via JNDI?

In particular, for a given attribute I want to know if it is single
valued or multi-valued.

Is the only approach to read/parse cn=schema to discover this
information? Or is there a more direct approach that queries directly
for the schema information of a given attribute type?
