Hi all,

I've been working with the 4690 OS and the ACE application since last
November and I haven't encoutered any issue for programming purposes.
So far I've accomplished real time transactions (sales, batch
maintenance, etc.) on the ACE application with my app, and I'm looking
forward to achive this on SA as well. My lab is going to grow from a
single controller to a controller/terminal and an enhanced terminal on
the next 2 or 3 months so I'm trying to start and test the
configuration (transformation) of my controller to be a controller/
terminal, however the configuration I'm trying doesn't seems to work
properly.

Here's what I have (for now, until the purchase of the new enhanced
terminal):

SUREPOS 4800-743
4820-51G Flat Panel/Iron Gray 15-inch LCD IR (Screen)
4610-2CR 4610-2CR W / MICR / Thermal / (Printer)
IBM cash drawer
Modular 67-Key (pos keayboard, I believe is the ADXKBS2 layout)
standard keyboard and mouse.

Software:

4690 OS V6 Release 2-0BF0
SurePOS ACE v7 5639-BA1

Steps done:

1. All periferials are connected. (printer usb/power, screen usb power
supply and VGA adapter, cash drawer, pos keyboard, standard keyboard
and mouse)
2. As we don't really any store information to be backed up, first I
did a clean OS installation, controller id CC and US ENGLISH set as
language.
3. LAN TCC, Netbios and communications features installed. and 10
terminal licenses set.
4. Installation of surepos ACE application.
5. Controller configured to use both LAN and TCC over Ethernet, no SNA
comm., configured to be a controller/terminal, terminal number 5,
after IPL should begin in controller mode, multiple users allowed, no
dumps, ethernet control mode as autimatic resume, not monochrome
support, java graphics allowed, resolution 800x600, primary
application ACE v7 (ACEBORUN), no secondary apps, gipc/electronic
journal/checkout support as background apps.
6. System Configuration: Store number 1, Application name ACE, LAN
terminal definition only for terminal 5 (primary controller CC).
7. Generic Terminal configuration:

a) define new device characteristics.
b) POS displays: andisplay-first detected, andisplay2-second detected,
andisplay3-third detected, system display-first detected.
c) video display enabled and screen saver enabled.
d) graphics: resolution 800x600, 256 colors, primary settings as
screen resolution.

8. Load Definition: I created a load definition for the range 5 to 5
(only would apply for the local controller/terminal) as follows:

a) selection of the previously generated device characteristics.
b) terminal load on enhanced mode.
c) primary application: R::ADX_IPGM:ACETSFSL.386
d) keyboard layouts : Modular 67-key changed to ADXKBS02
e) TCP/IP obtain and IP from DHCP
f) TCC over IP checked.

9) System, controller and terminal configurations activated.
10) software maintenance applied for ACE app.
(consider 2 or 3 IPLs)

After doing this configuration, the ACE application (in controller
mode) seems to work fine, and same goes for the background apps. When
I change to terminal mode though (using function keys), I only get a
black screen. After an IPL, if I do a fast login and then switch to
terminal mode, I can see the U006 message holding there, and suddenly
a fast change to U007 message, disappearing almost inmediately. The
info on the messages guide only seems to tell that is a display
problem. As for the system messages, there's a W324 "REQUIRED DEVICE
PROBLEM - DISPLAY B1/S070/E005". Reviewing this on the messages guide
(errors W324 and W326 -from S070/E005-) seems to tell that it is
indeed a display/drivers problem. I've attached another diplay on the
secon VGA port with no results. As well I've tried different network
configurations, but as i understand these are completely ignored for
the controller/terminal environment (user's guide).

At this point I'm not sure what to do about this issue. I would really
appreciate if you can give me some insight on what can be wrong or
missing in my configuration.

Thanks in advance.

What did you set the number of lines to on your Video Display setting.
You are using the Full screen app you can say No Graphics.
The message says you didn't define the display, so I would verify that.

Out of curiosity, why would you use Enhanced Terminal on the Full Screen Application?

I would check to see if you have the video set as the system display, as
well. There was no mention of a system display in your narrative and this is
a classic symptom of lack of a system display.

Feel free to contact me directly, if needed.

Peace!
