Buenos dias, bons dias, good morning,

We hereby announce or recall, another lecture in our cycle of IRSE/IPMA-DivRP lectures.

This Thursday (tomorrow), 20/04/2023, at 11:30h, Nuno Brites will talk to us about optimization of fisheries management strategies.

The lecture will be in a hybrid format. We invite everyone to be present in the brown IPMA room (Luis Saldanha room).

TITLE

A stochastic optimal control problem with a generalized logistic harvesting growth model

ABSTRACT

Stochastic optimal control methods have been applied to design optimal harvesting policies in a randomly varying environment. Here, we describe the growth dynamics of a stock using stochastic differential equations with a generalized logistic growth model, allowing us to obtain several particular models. For each model, we compute the optimal variable effort policy and compare the expected net present value of the total profit earned by the harvester among policies. In addition, we further extend the study to include parameters sensitivity, such as costs and volatility.

BIOGRAFIA/BIOGRAPHY

Nuno M. Brites is an assistant professor and researcher at the Universidade de Lisboa's ISEG and CEMAPRE. He has a BSc, an MSc, and a Ph.D. in mathematics. His research is at the cutting edge of mathematical analysis and probability theory, with a focus on the study and application of stochastic differential equations in the optimization of harvesting policies in randomly varying environments.
