Can anyone tell me why some of my puoas are getting a whitish film on them and they dry up? Do I need to throw out the containers they were in? Also my daughter bought 6 new milkweed plants, they have white spots on them and I am finding a reddish bug on the leaves, can anyone please help me, I've never had a probmem before this,,and now I've had 4 monarchs born deformed and 8 have had that whitish film on them. It's not only upsetting me but the kids aren't taking it very well. Thanks for any guidance you can give me. Susan F.

Susan,

Is there a picture you could show us? Also, have any of the parent butterflies been tested for Oe?

Susan,

Where are you located and what milkweed are you using?

The if very small red bugs could be red spider mites or if larger
immature milkweed bugs or beetles or something else. Photos would be
good. If you don't have a camera good enough for macro, search the
internet for a photo using the keywords in this message. It could
identify your crop pest or at the least rule out the normal ones.
