Dear professor,

I am running a 3D ConstraintIB fish case based on the eel3d-style workflow. The simulation writes lag_data.visit, and I can export the Lagrangian structure to VTK using VisIt.

However, the exported Lagrangian VTK appears to contain only marker/vertex cells:

points = 16979 cells = 16979 cell type = VTK_VERTEX

So ParaView/PyVista shows a 3D marker cloud rather than a smooth connected fish surface.

My question is: for ConstraintIB/fish3d-style simulations, is the expected Lagrangian visualization output only marker vertices, or is there an existing IBAMR/VisIt method to export a connected surface mesh for smoother visualization?

Thank you,
Vinod

For ConstraintIBMethod (as well as similar methods, like IBMethod), the structures' data structures don’t include enough information to cleanly render surfaces.

For stair-step-like meshes, it would probably be straightforward to treat it like a mixed hex-tet mesh for visualization or post-processing, but that is not something that we have direct support for at this time.
