I don’t know of any region-specific requirements. Are you running into problems?

Hi Xin.

I'm not sure where your problem is, but I also have several problems installing libmesh on linux, and I installed all from the source code (boost, eigen, hypre,  petsc, samrai...) and I could install it without problems. I think that if that works for me so going to work for you.

It is hard to tell from the screenshot, but it looks like you are having a conflict with an installed METIS library in /usr/lib. Are you trying to use an installed version of METIS with libMesh? (Or have you previously installed METIS independently?) Also, where are you trying to install libMesh? (I.e., what are you using for --prefix?)

(By the way, for these kinds of questions, I would suggest not sending screenshots but instead directly copying/pasting from the terminal.)

Hi everyone,

I'm pretty sure that this is a problem with how libMesh detects METIS - it can either use it from PETSc or it will build its own version - there's no either way. If you have a copy of PETSc installed that does not interface with your system version of METIS then you are screwed. I believe that this is the status quo with Ubuntu since it doesn't link against METIS:

Regardless of all that, this is a problem with libMesh, not IBAMR, so I recommend asking for help on their mailing list. Did you open a thread there?

Best,
David Wells

I had the same problem (or some similar) in Ubuntu 18.04, and the way to fix it was just to install all the package list that appears in https://ibamr.github.io/linux    and the installations of libmesh and IBAMR worked without problems.

Hi everyone,

Ramiro's fix is unfortunately the best way to solve this problem - libMesh just isn't compatible with the packages provided by apt-get.

Xin: do you see what to do? Was this enough to fix your problem?

Best,
