Hi guys,

I recently used IBAMR to perform some simulations and obtain some results. Taking IBFE and IB as examples, I would like to know what corresponding post-processing modules are available in IBAMR? (For example, outputting the average flow field over a period of time) In other words, is there a tool that allows me to read files in the form of .samrai?

You can use VisIt (https://visit-dav.github.io/visit-website/index.html) or ParaView (https://www.paraview.org/) to visualize these files.

I only use VisIt, which handles these files natively. In the past, there were some extra steps needed to get ParaView to read in the SAMRAI output. (David, are there any hoops to jump through to get the SAMRAI viz files into ParaView?)

Hi Khemraj,

Can you list the steps you did for plotting IBAMR results in Paraview here? I think you had prepared a document for this purpose. Can you share it with IBAMR users?

Thanks,

Hi Prof.Boyce,

Thank you for your reply! Do you mean to use visualization software such as Paraview and Visit to output the field data again?
In fact, what I want to achieve is to directly use python/matlab to read the ASCII or binary field file and do some post-processing :)
Do you have any suggestions on this idea?

Of course, I am more familiar with the use of Paraview. It would be even better if there is a method to read it in Paraview! In this way, I can easily draw the Q criterion.

You might be able to export some data from VisIt or ParaView in a format that you can use in MATLAB or Python. We don’t provide tools to do this directly. I think that you will want to resample your data onto a uniform grid before exporting anything.

Oh indeed, thank you very much for your suggestion about the uniform grid. I forgot that the dynamic grid technology we adopted makes the coordinate values change.

Hello,

Sure. I used visit to load ‘.visit’ files and then exported database in ‘.vtk’ format from visit. Please see attached.

Thanks,

I believe that it is possible to avoid using VisIt altogether, and just to load everything directly in ParaView. If we don’t have instructions on how to do this, then we can try to put something together…
