Folks —

Increasingly, I think the time has come to end our use of autotools, but I am interested in people’s options.

CMake is easier to maintain than autotools and, in my experience, is faster and has better dependency management for executables. It also enables better build systems for external projects that use IBAMR.

https://github.com/IBAMR/autoibamr/ is now the recommended way to build IBAMR for most users, and autoibamr uses the CMake build under the hood.

I think that I’d like to remove autotools after the next release, but I certainly am open to other plans of action — including keeping autotools if there are good reasons to do so.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

Boyce and I just published IBAMR 0.18. If there's no significant interest in keeping autotools around then I think it's time to move on to CMake: we've supported both for five years.

Best,
David Wells
