information about persistent identifiers

At the PNC meeting in Hanoi (I know, somebody should report on this here..
stay tuned), it became obvious that one area that needs more investigation
and careful thought is the unique-id/assigning/resolving issue.
Looking around, I found interesting pages on how the German National Library
deals with these things at http://www.persistent-identifier.de/?lang=en.
Since I am swamped with other things to do, I can't give a detailed account,
but I thought I let you know about it.
Incidentally, a while ago I started tagging finds such as these at delicious
with iba-net. If you look at http://delicious.com/tag/iba-net, you will
find the list. The nice thing about this is that if somebody else starts to
tag things with the same iba-net, those finds will also show up here, nicely
aggregating in one place. And this will be even more informative and useful
if something is added in the Notes field as to what this is about and why it
is important. I am training myself to do this, but am not yet good at it.
