"You cannot extinguish that which lights itself" — Pádraig Ó Tuama

I am excited to tell you about a venture I began last July: a new journal of Poetry and Art called Calul Journal

"Hakol Calul" in Hebrew means "everything is included." Calul poets make up an inclusive and expansive community. At Calul we begin in a place of Jewish humanism and branch out to the world.

Each week we pair and publish one poet and one visual artist together in a feature that we hope speaks to the concerns of the day. Calul is a place to be different, to be controversial, to think deeply and outside the boxes of what everyone else is thinking. Calul is a place to feel.

Read our recent Rosh Hashana Folio here

Calul is an inclusive space for poets and those who love poetry to come for solace in difficult times because we believe that every poem, every piece of art and every poet and artist are touched by something divine.

Each week at Calul we toggle between weekly features and the occasional folio around a timely topic, holiday or event.

Right now we have a special call for poems for a Chanukah folio with the theme of "Perseverance." Just as we quoted Pádraig Ó Tuama above: "You cannot extinguish that which lights itself." Poems don't need to mention Chanukah. We are looking for the most expansive interpretation of the word "perseverance."

All submissions should be sent to calulj...@gmail.com

We also hope you will become a weekly subscriber at calul.substack.com. All content at Calul Journal is completely free and open to the public.
