This is our weekly aggregation of links to interesting reads for scholars, critics, performers, and enthusiasts to stay plugged in to what's current. Generally, the links are from this week, but sometimes an older item we've missed in the past will sneak into this thread.

Post, discuss, and enjoy!

The official trailer for Michael Rapaport's Tribe Called Quest doc, Beats Rhymes, and Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest, has been released. Release dates are set for July starting in NYC and LA, then moving to other cities. I've never found Rapaport to be a compelling actor, but I'll try him out as a director. Q-Tip apparently isn't thrilled with some of what Rapaport included in the final cut, and at least half of the trailer is dedicated to the group's discord, so I'm a bit worried, especially given my feelings about Rapaport's acting, that this film might be more sensation than substance...

So the new Lady Gaga album sold 1.1 million copies last week, but the NYTimes mentions that 440,000 of those albums were downloaded via Amazon and bought for 99 cents a pop as part of a marketing campaign to push Amazon's cloud service (Amazon paid Gaga full price).

In other news, is anyone using Amazon's cloud service or some other cloud for storage? I'm curious to hear from you if you are.

I'd be curious to hear as well.

Best,

If the cloud remains an mp3 format only, I don't think I'll be storing much of my music in this way.  The Apple version has gone strictly for convenience--if you're a strictly ITunes person.  It will probably be successful. But more and more, I get depressed listening to mp3s.  I can bear it when I'm doing something else--like exercising or something.  But for real listening? No thanks.
