Hi all,
Gayle Wald here--I teach at George Washington Univ in DC, and I'm
doing a "U.S. Pop Music Cultures and Identity" course in the fall. I'm
glad this listserv is up and running.

A quick question: For my fall course, I'd love to teach something that
would help students think critically about music and identity online.
In particular, I want to be able to address the idea of musical taste
as a signifier of something deep about the self--to wit, on everything
from FB to dating sites, identifying your musical "likes" and
"dislikes" can be quite important. Does anyone know of a good article
out there about popular music, social media, and identity? Would love
to know if anyone reading this has ever written on this.

Thanks!
Gayle

I would like to echo Gayle here--is there something good on Music and Identity online?  Does Holly Kruse know?  Or Nancy Baym?

Or Kiri Miller? Kiri, I loved your presentation at IASPM on Youtube instructional videos, perhaps that is what Gayle is looking for?
