You may have heard of Devs for Wendy. A little about Wendy….
“Wendy Friedlander is a software developer, loving mom and wife who
turned into a cancer survivor in training on 8/14/2009. It was the
weekend of her daughter's first birthday, when she found out she has a
rare pediatric cancer called aveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. She had to
immediately wean her daughter, Kaylee, and start a new life of being
separated from Kaylee and husband, Matt. This has taken an emotion and
financial toll on her family. She had to stop working and Matt
switched to part time work to care for her and Kaylee. The cost of
childcare, house and medical expenses add up. “ – DevsForWendy.com
Steve Bohlen has posted more information about event specifics here
http://unhandled-exceptions.com/blog/index.php/2010/06/30/devsforwendy.
Wendy Friedlander is very deserving of our community’s support, so I’d
like to request something of all group leaders: For the month of
July, please ask your user group attendees to donate $5.00 when they
attend meetings. Participation is not required, but your Microsoft
DPE team as well as the organizers (Sara Chipps and Steve Bohlen) are
very appreciative of your help. And as a bonus, you just know you’re
doing a great thing too! We’re asking you to only ask your members
for donations only, not to require them to pay anything. As a
suggestion, I think it would result in more funds collected overall by
putting out a donations jars at meetings as well as links to PayPal or
other means to collect money.
Additionally, any event promotion that you could help with on the
various social media sites available such as Twitter, Blogs & Facebook
would be very valuable in helping us out. Feel free to contact the
organizers or your DPE team if you have more questions or would like
to become more involved.
Thanks for your time in reading this and your support.
Sincerely,
