Abu 'Ubaidah (RA) said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: 'Fasting is a shield, so long as you do not damage it."
(Sunan an-Nasa'i, Book 22, Hadith 144)
Fasting protects you, but only if your intentions are right and you embody fasting in every way. It was prescribed to us so that we may attain Taqwa, so be conscious of Allah (SWT) at all times and you will Insha'Allah be protected from the Hellfire.
