Dear all,

Over the coming period a few of us will be working collaboratively on designing a site for ANZPOP, and also experimenting with real project/assignments designs, to see how these can be made really relevant to students. All of this will need to be followed by participating within IAPOP.com Apps for education. I can't promise to feedback developments, as most of my creative juices will be expended inside there :)

So come and get involved in developments if you are interested and have the time...

Meanwhile I've been working away at the experimental site, and I wanted to share some of the recent developments. These are:

1. Student Portal
2. Faculty Portal
3. Assignment/Project Templates
4. Video page

Portals - Put simply, the student and faculty portals are pages that the student or faculty member can adapt themselves. A bit like iGoogle pages if you have ever used them. This means that student/faculty can add widgets, with useful calendars, time zone differences, exchange rates, groups they are subscribed to, email widgets etc... Whatever they like and may need to use often as part of the school. There's not alot on these pages, but if you click on one you will find that you are invited to find and add widgets that are unique to your username, so others wont see your page!

Templates: One of the strengths of Google Sites is that you can replicate and duplicate any materials on the site. I have been working on a template page for faculty to use when setting up projects or assignments.  An example of this page can be found at the address below. You will need to login to your iapop.com account.

I've now created a Project/Assignment Google Sites page template. It can do with some tweaking, but hopefully it will really help with quickly starting setting up some training resources.

  • What's really exciting for me about this page is the embedded Submission Form, so that the student on completion of their assignment basically logs their assignment. This will automatically record the exact date/time of the submission.
  • It will also automatically record the students iapop email.
  • And then the student adds the other details.
  • The title of the assignment/project, and also the course code. This course.
  • They then point the faculty /tutor towards their work by providing a URL. This could be to anything really, a video, a Google Document, a spreadsheet, their ePortfolio, anything online. Of course the student would need to set sharing permissions.
  • But then a cool thing is that the tutor can add comments to their work and inform them of the feedback.
  • All of this Form information goes back to ONE central spreadsheet - this can be per cohort, per class, or per school.
  • But these spreadsheets can be searched by any parameter. For example by time, by course or assignment code, by student etc.. And additional fields can be added to the spreadsheet in order for example to store grades or additional comments etc..

I can show you all this when we meet colalboratively. But for now you may wish to view it all at... https://sites.google.com/a/iapop.com/international-school/faculty/project-or-assignment

Video page - this was simply an experiment to see how you can embed one player to show many many PW videos.

Hi Mark and all
I looked at the experimental website. Great potential. Exciting

Thanks Grace,

Just to let you all know also that I am in some discussions around the
core competencies of PW trainings internationally and how these could
be recorded in a way that will give us some clear picture of where
students/learners are in their learning process. This is a 3
dimensional model, but we should be OK with that because most
processworkers seem to work in at least 5 dimensions already.

;)
