It gives me great pleasure to inform you that I will be running the half marathon in the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon on 16 Jan 2011 on behalf of the NGO --Save the children - India.
This was one of the things I always wanted to do before I turned 50, but somehow the thought of running 21 kms was extremely intimidating and I couldn’t motivate myself enough to take this step. However, if you wish for something from the bottom of your heart the entire universe collaborates in making your wish come true. This is especially true in my case. This year my god sent opportunity came in the guise of a chance meeting with my good friend and architect Rahul Kadri who knew about my desire and offered me an entry into the half marathon through his NGO Save the Children - India. Suddenly the way became clear. I would not only fulfil my wish, but I would be running for a very good cause and that was the motivation I required.
I was again lucky to find a good coach and running group and started running two months ago. Slowly and steadily I have been able to able to increase distance and time. But this run is not about me or my running time, but for a far higher cause, which is collecting funds for Save the Children - India because I strongly believe in their cause and because of the work that they do in different fields for vulnerable children. This NGO does great work in a lot of fields related to education, in rescuing the girl child from child labour and human trafficking, preventing malnutrition, providing counselling for children and parents , running balwadis and schools, training teachers etc. They also run a beautiful special needs school for hearing impaired children and mentally challenged children in BKC Bandra [Mumbai].
