Hi,

I have recently read this particular fiction writer's book "Twisted"
and "More Twisted" - a collection of short stories. Deaver made his
name with "The Bone Collector", which was later made into a succesful
movie.

If you guys remember Jeffrey Archer's " A Twist in the Tale", the
short stories are something similar, except that it is more mature (I
find Archer child like) and the stories and the way it culminates will
really make you gasp. Deaver is very detailed and his writing hooks
you on. He is like Michael Crichton in the detailing sense.

I am now reading Deaver's "The Vanished Man" and it seems awesome. If
any of you are reading "Twisted" or have read it, let me know your
reactions.

hi gopal

i saw you with "twisted"  at school during the maths workshop and told you to pass it on to me once you are through with it - still waiting - let me borrow it the next time we meet up, if it is not already in circulation !!! :-)

have borrowed "namesake" by jhumpa lahiri almost a month back from a cousin of mine but am yet to start it - will let you know about it once i am through with it, though i am sure most of you would have bee ndone with that book years back !!!

the last book i read was "q & a" by vikas swarup - definitely liked the book much better than the movie. movie was a little too "bollywoodised" for my liking. i have the book with me in case anybody is interested in reading it.

bye

hi gopal and all who get this,
so deaver is gopals latest read. have read coffin dancer, bonecollector, manhatten is my beat and one featuring a bunch of kidnapped deaf kids. will check out twisted soon. always on lookout for deavers i have not read. am currently reading martin cruz smith, havanna bay. though nobody can come close to lecarre and his george smiley, cruz smiths arkady renko is as much a loser and what i like the most about him is that he is younger. had liked gorky park by the same author. the cold war had given these writers, le carre, deighton, forsyth, cruz smith and anymore that you want to add, a roaring business and it is interesting to read whatever they are coming up with post cold war, berlin wall collapse and the collapse of  the soviet union. they are grappling with it and in this case of havanna bay, russia na sahi toh cuba chalega (coz they still are communist and hated by the usa, which is not so much the case with china).
i devour thrillers and the espionage ones even more. but in between read ,i dont know what to call them,  books like,' ines of my soul ' by isabel allende, which iam also currently reading. it is the story of a woman who becomes the mistress of a field marsall and how they go about conquering chile. dunno how  many thrillers i will read before i finish this  book.

cheers,

shanthi.

Hi

Since British Council Library went online and a pain to use trisha and I have just joined Tilak Mandir Library- just across the road and monthly charges of about Rs 30-40?! We are now exposed to American authors as well and a year and a half later I remembered Gopal's email when I saw a copy of Twisted. Loved the first three stories, but then found the others too preditable in plot and most of them were about marital relationships. Unlike Gopal I find the other Jeffery has more variety in his Tales, but then I haven't read them for a long time.... however have bought his latest and will read it at leisure since there is no returning date and I savour the feeling of having unread virgin books in my cupboard!!
