More, because Iowa law does not have a residency requirement for
people seeking to get married in the state, there is nothing
preventing same-sex couples from other states from traveling to Iowa,
getting married, and then returning home. In this case, the federal
constitution's full faith and promise clause guarantees that they will
be recognized as married in their home state, meaning that ultimately,
all 50 states will be required to recognize same-sex marriage.
All this boils down to one inescapable truth: unless something
unforeseen happens before April 27, 2009, the Iowa Supreme Court's
decision will affect you, regardless of where you live.
So here's the question: How will you respond to Iowa's legalization of
same-sex marriage?
