CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)
FRIDAY PRAYERS CANCELLED
The Islamic Association of Mid-Cities (IAMC) has been closely monitoring the viral pandemic known as Coronavirus (COVID-19). At this time we would like to assure and remind everyone that we prioritize the health, safety, and security of all of its members, congregants, and visitors.
In keeping with the guidelines suggested by the North Texas Imam Council (NTIC), and the Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America (AMJA), as well as in consultation with local Islamic scholarship and leadership, we have decided to adopt the following precautionary measures effective immediately:
1. SALAT AL-JUMU’AH IS CANCELLED.
2. ALL EVENING PROGRAMS ARE SUSPENDED.
3. WEEKEND SCHOOL (IAMC SUNDAY SCHOOL) IS CANCELLED.
NOTE: All infected individuals are mandated to avoid congregational prayer.
NOTE: All high-risk individuals highly encouraged to avoid attending congregational prayer (e.g. elderly, chronically-ill, immunocompromised, post-operative, pregnant, children, etc.)
We fully acknowledge the blessing and impact of gathering together for the sake of Allah (swt) and praying together in congregation as a community, however we also take the responsibility of protecting and safeguarding the community very seriously. This decision was a very difficult one and it comes late at night after much deliberation, discussion, consultation, and of course, prayer. We hope that you also pray for us and that Allah (swt) guide us to that which is best.
COVID-19 is very virulent and has an unusually long incubation period. This means it spreads very quickly, most of the time, from person to person without showing any symptoms. We can not and will not risk the health and lives of the elderly, chronically-ill, and immunocompromised members of our community. The need of the hour is to slow and eventually stop the spread of this virus. That is of primary and utmost importance.
In lieu of Salat al-Jumu’ah, one may pray four rak’at of Salat al-Zuhr individually at home.
Please do not come to the masjid tomorrow! No one will be allowed to establish Salat al-Jumu’ah at the masjid tomorrow!
Please continue to monitor this group for more announcements as this situation continues to unfold. Read Surat al-Kahf. Send abundant Salawat (Salutations and Blessimgs) on the Prophet Muhammad (s). Make Dua’. Take reasonable precautions.
May Allah (swt) protect and safeguard our community and the ummah. Ameen.
