I wonder if any of you code slingers might be able to pull together a
simpler package whose only function would be to mirror the mp4 files
from the camera to a local directory, suitable for execution by cron.
I'd really love to not have to run Parallels all the time merely to
get to get these clips to dropbox.

I'd be willing to put a few or $10 into the pot for this.

I take it you dont run windows?  One of the future releases of alert commander will have dropbox support since they announced it.

Hi Gary,

Right, I run windows in a vm only for alert commander. Dropbox support for alert commander strikes me as next to useless-- put it in the camera's firmware, then they'd have something to write home (and their customers) about.

Its possible to do as you suggested - but don't really have the free time to do it on the java version I am writing.  This java version is more designed to be an app server and run in tomcat for web accessibility.

That being said, it shouldn't take much effort to use Matthews version (which is open source) - dump the GUI and keep the upnp and xmpp stuff and it should work as you expect.  This shouldn't have to be cron based either.  The way it works is, upnp network discovery service locates the network cameras on start then subscribes to the camera events.  When the code gets notification of the xmpp events, it retrieves the file automatically.  Assuming it reconnects upon disconnects, you wouldn't need a cron.  You just won't need the GUI part but most everything else you should probably keep.  Either hard code or setup a config file for the network path.  You might want to take a stab at it.

This is exactly what I am using iAlert for currently. I have iAlert
running constantly on my Lion server machine, with a symlink of
~Movies/iAlert pointing to a Dropbox folder. I use Hazel to delete
anything older than 48hrs (free Dropbox verison), and to rename the
file based on the creation time: YYYY-MM-DD HHMMSS.mp4. It's not
pretty, but it works.

I agree with Shad, firmware Dropbox would be something to write home
about.

If you don't mind recording the stream, you can always use RTSP Capture located here: http://www.soleratec.com/download/download.php.  This should save the stream to the pc.   I know your probably looking more for the motion activated recordings but thought I'd pass this your way as well but they also have Phoenix RSM for mac which allows for user defined policies to move and manage video.  I haven't checked it out myself.
