PhD position at FH Aachen (Germany): Air-water flows and scale effects

Dear all,

the Hydraulic Engineering section of FH Aachen (Aachen University of Applied Sciences) will open a 3-years PhD position related to air-water flows and scale effects (starting from June 2023).
The position is fully funded by DFG (German Research Foundation).

Your duties:

  • Participation in an international research project on scale effects in hydraulic modeling (funded by German Research Foundation DFG)
  • Design, set-up and performance of physical model tests 
  • Development of new camera-based measuring techniques
  • Supervision of project-related student theses
  • Data documentation and writing of research reports
  • Publication of results in international journals
  • Coordination of project meetings

 

Your skills and job requirements:

  • Master degree (or equivalent degree) in civil or environmental engineering from a national or international university (specialized in fluid mechanics or hydraulic engineering) 
  • Sound knowledge in fluid mechanics, preferably multiphase flows 
  • Interest in scientific work and further scientific qualification (PhD)
  • Sound English skills, basic German skills are welcome
  • Structured and independent work skills
  • Good communication skills and interest in working with students
  • Experience in hydraulic modeling 
  • Programming skills (Matlab or Python)
  • Student visa and residence permit at start of project (if applicable)

  • Full-time employment (100 %), temporary for three years
  • Regular weekly work time of 39 hours 50 minutes
