Dear Colleagues,
the EAGE Near Surface Geoscience 2014 is going to be in Athens in the period
15-17 September of 2014.

The EAGE Near Surface Geoscience 2014 in Athens has the innovation to be a
multi-event conference where with the same fee the following events someone
can participate:

· the long standing “20th European Meeting of Environmental and
Engineering Geophysics” with the 200 submitted extended abstracts and 70% of
them been accepted to be presented

We have the honor two important colleagues to give Keynote Speeches in very
interesting topics:

o Professor Don Steeples (SEG President) “Development of Near-Surface
Seismology During my 40-Year Career”

o Dr Koya Suto (ex-President of ASEG) “Near-Surface Geophysics and
Australia’s Challenge”

o Professor Michael Zhdanov (University of Utah) “Paradigm change in
subsurface imaging using 3D inversion of electromagnetic data.”

Also two workshops are organized on the 14th of September 2014 in the hot

Two interesting fieldtrips are organized in famous places that they are very
much connected with geosciences, mining activity and archaeology:

· EAGE daily fieldtrip to Lavrion (ancient mining activity and
geophysical exploration there) and to Sounion Cape with the famous Temple
of Poseidon

· HGU 3-day fieldtrip to Santorini Island (a place being a
geological laboratory as well as one of the first touristic destinations of
the world) with boat trip in the caldera, visits to Akrotiri archaeological
site and Oia and finally presentations:

o Dr. George Vougioukalakis, Researcher Volcanologist, Institute of
Geology and Mineral Exploration. “Santorini Volcano evolution and the
2011-2012 unrest”

o Dr. Dimitris Sakellariou, Geologist, Research Director, Hellenic Centre
for Marine Research. “The submarine volcanic field of Santorini: geology &
geophysics, tectonics, volcanic centers”

o Dr. Andreas Tzanis, Geophysicist, Associate Professor, National and
Kapodistrian University of Athens, “Internal structure and contemporary
deformation of the Santorini Volcanic Complex: A synthesis of Geophysical,
Seismological and Geodetic observations”

Athens in September is an excellent place to visit with the special occasion
of the EAGE Near Surface Geoscience 2014 Meeting
