Aerial Archaeology Research Group International Conference
Venice (Italy), 12-14 September 2018

 

AARG (Aerial Archaeology Research Group) is the premier international conference for all aspects of aerial methods in the study of field archaeology and landscape history. With a history going back to 1983, AARG engages with a wide range of methods, including the use of aerial photography, lidar, UAV-based survey and satellite-based approaches.

The 35th AARG conference will be held at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice’s Ca’ Dolfin Palace from Wednesday 12th to Friday 14th September 2018.

Call for Papers and Posters

The AARG2018 Organising Committee invites proposals for papers and posters relating to the use of aerial methods (and remote sensing at large) in the study of field archaeology and landscape history, and in defining preservation policies for archaeological sites and landscapes.

Paper and Poster proposals are due on 15th May 2018.

Conference sessions

The conference will be comprised of 6 sessions. The main themes of the conference include the following:

1. Local session: aerial archaeology in Italy
2. Coastal, shallow and lagoon water environments
3. Drones: to drone or not to drone
4. Remote sensing and Land management: field and agricultural systems
5. Monitoring changes (looting, endangered historical heritage, environmental changes)
6. Aerial archaeology in collaboration – using methodological approaches from other branches of science

How to Submit

We look forward to receiving your proposal. We welcome submission of paper and posters abstracts. The abstract (in English) should consist of two parts: a 280 max characters short abstract, which will be used for the conference booklet, and an extended abstract up to 1700 characters, which will be used additionally to assess the submission.

Please submit your proposal via the AARG submission form.
