Dear subscriber,

Please find attached the November/December issue of the IAF newsletter.

At this time of year, it is tempting to look back at the successes of the previous twelve months and forward to the next.

The Federation had a very busy year in 2010.

With nearly 3500 attendees, the 61st International Astronautical Congress in Prague was one of the most successful ever. We received wonderful feedback on the Congress, and would like to extend our gratitude to the host organisation for its excellent work and hospitality. Other IAF events were met with great interest by the space community: a GEOSS Workshop held in Paris on the occasion of the IAF Spring Meeting and the Global Lunar Conference, held in Beijing, China.

Furthermore, we were proud to welcome 16 new organisations to our community, which brings the total IAF membership count to 205 members in 58 countries.

This coming year, 2011, will be one marked by celebrations. Alongside the important anniversaries of several IAF member organisations, the Federation will also commemorate its foundation in 1951 with a 60th anniversary celebration on 22 March 2011. We will use this event not only to celebrate our own diamond jubilee but also to honour fifty years of human spaceflight.

We eagerly anticipate the 62nd International Astronautical Congress in Cape Town that will be the first IAC on the African Continent. With initiatives such as an African Summit, along with well-established projects like the International Cluster Forum and the International Meeting for Members of Parliaments, we believe it will be a most exciting event.

I wish you all the best for 2011.

With my very best regards,

Berndt Feuerbacher
President
