In my Parameter Defaults Table, I have some parameters with defined
limits and other parameters with no limits. When these parameters
with no limits are placed on a strip chart (or other display), it
looks like IADS applies default limits values of +/-5000 and
+/-10,000. This creates nuisance alerts when I turn on threshold
monitoring.

Is there a way to "turn off" the limits for some parameters in the
Parameter Defaults Table?

Or, should I define limits for all parameters such that I can ensure
that nuisance alerts are eliminated?

Thanks.

You are correct. If you don't define limits for the warning and alarm
thresholds, they default to above values.

At this time, the only way to turn off the limits is to turn off the
Threshold checks via the Dashboard button. I understand this probably
isn't what you want to do.

Yes, the best solution is to define the limits in the
ParameterDefaults table to be values that are large enough so the
limits won't be hit.

I hope that will work for you. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Jeff,

Unfortunately, there's no way to turn off the threshold checking per
parameter in the PD table, but Brenda and I think we found a way to turn
on/off per display. Sorry, this was an oversight that occured many years ago
and at this point we're unable to change the format of the PD table due to
customer's external generation of CSV files (i.e. it would break that
mechanism).

I'll add something in our database to check If the column is blank and
disable the thresholding for that parameter. Sound good?

Hold on, we're investigating the per display setting further,
Jim

Hi Jeff,

My mistake. It turns out we do have a way for you to turn off the
threshold for an individual display.

What you want to do is Enabled Thresholds via the Dashboard button.
Then make sure your Analysis Window has focus by clicking on the title
bar. Then place your mouse cursor inside your Stripchart display and
hit the / (forward slash) key. You'll see a little popup message that
says the thresholds have been disabled. The / key hit will only work
when the Thresholds are enabled in the Dashboard. If you want to
disable the thresholds for a bunch of Stripcharts, just select them
before hitting the / key hit while your mouse cursor is inside one of
them all they should all get disabled.

The / key hit will actually toggle through various states for the
thresholding. You'll see that you can disable thresholds, highlight
(display) only, log (threshold) only or highlight and log.

Sorry about the incorrect information earlier. I hope that will work
out for you.
