I'm re-organizing some existing IADS AWs and I'm not able to group any of the stripcharts or objects. There is one group of objects that already exist and I'm able to ungroup it through the right-click menu. However, if I select any other charts or objects on the AW, the group option isn't available in the right click menu.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Stephen

Stephen,
Grouping of objects only works for ActiveX Display Objects (Text, Circle, Button, etc.). Stripcharts and the other Display Objects on the Data Displays Tab are not ActiveX objects and cannot be grouped in that way.
They can however be dropped to a panel and that panel can be moved where all contained objects will move with it.

Thank you,

Hey Adam,

Thanks for the quick response.

That is good to know! Is there any plan to add the ability to group Data Displays in a similar manner to the ActiveX Controls? That additional functionality would be very helpful with building and organizing analysis windows.

Thank you,
Stephen

Stephen,
Not at this time as generally the same type of functionality can be achieved with the Display Panel Object as the Group function. Where Group makes a Group of objects that can be moved together and copied and pasted together the Display Panel does the same thing, but visually. In fact you can nest grouped ActiveX Objects into a Display Panel along with Data Display objects like a stripchart and the whole Panel can be moved or copied to another Analysis Window.
An additional method to auto populate a Display Panel with a group of objects from the Data Displays Tab is to right click drag the object to an Analysis Window. When you drop the object it will present the option to Create Multiple Here and when selected will present an additional option for the number of rows and columns of said object. The resulting group will be all contained in a Display Panel that can be moved together or copied to another Analysis Window.

A not-well-documented feature is that you can hold Ctrl key while resizing a Display Panel or Analysis Window and the objects within it will not resize with the Display Panel or Analysis Window. So if the entirety of the Display Panel is Stripcharts then Ctrl + Left Mouse Drag an edge of the Display Panel to expand so that more room is available to drop additional Display Objects.

Any Parameters assigned to objects in a Display Panel will be included in any copies of that Panel. It’s not uncommon to have scratch Analysis Windows with commonly used Display Objects in Display Panels that can quickly be copied to new Analysis Windows. This is similar to the ActiveX Library Toolbox (right click menu -> Edit ->Library Toolbox) where individual or grouped customized ActiveX Objects can be stored and then quickly deployed to Analysis Windows from the Library Toolbox.

Adam,

That sounds like it would work well for us. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction!

Thanks,
