I created a desktop associated with Flight 1 running on the post flight data server.  When I run flight 2, and login I don't see my desktop from flight 1.  Typically the engineer sets up a desktop and wants to use it on each flight he runs from the Post Flight data server .

How can I do it ???

Andy,

Good question... I have to admit, this is somewhat confusing when
you're not actually within the "flight test cycle". You see, normally:

1) You build up your desktop and get it ready for "Flight 1"
2) This desktop is used on "Flight 1"
3) After "Flight 1" is over, that *same* configuration file is used as
a starting point for "Flight 2"... So in other words, your desktop is
copied into the configuration file of "Flight 2"
3) Repeat from step 2 for Flight "N"... Any changes saved during these
steps are moved along.

As you see, during normal operations, your desktop get moved along to
the next flight automatically. Actually, this is a feature (general
practice) of the CDS system that runs in the control room.

Having said that, there are "holes" in the situation above, like say
you're doing all your work in PostTest (importing data), or moving to a
different location/facility.... or you want to see your "newest"
desktop changes on all your "old" flights... so here's some tools:

1) You can use the Desktop "Import/Export" feature in the
ConfigurationTool to copy your desktop to/from any config file. Simply
bring up the ConfigurationTool (button on dashboard) and go to the
"File->Export->Desktop" menu, pick your desktop's name, and choose a
file. This will essential write your desktop to a file. Then open up
any other config and go to the "File->Import->Desktop" menu and choose
this file that you've just created. Wahla, your new desktop appears..
It's really fast once you get the procedure down. Also, you can email
your desktop to someone else, or carry it along with you to another
facility, etc.

2) Not recommended, but you can use the same configuration file for any
data set. When you load the PostTestDataServer and pick a directory
path for the data, you'll notice a little "checkbox" in the directory
selection dialog that says something like "Use the config file in this
directory". Uncheck that box and press Ok. It will then allow you to
choose *any* configuration file to be used with the data.... So, one
config file (with your favorite desktop), for any data set.

What seems to be the "logical" solution to this problem is to
completely divorce your desktop from the configuration file entirely.

I'll go into the problems associated with this solution, and also the
negative aspects of #2 in a later post....

I recommend to use method #1 for now,
Jim

Andy,

If you are flying right now, and you don't see your desktop from Flight
1 in the Flight 2 configuration, this may be due to the control room
not copying your config (as described in the last post). You may want
to have them contact Mike Burt (mb...@iads-soft.com). He can help them
to remedy the situation.

Jim
