Sometimes there is confusion over precisely which dialog page we are discussing.
On the left side of the wizard in the picture area, there is text at the bottom. Are we discussing the Choose Data Host page or the IADS Server Name page?
If you are referencing the IADS Server Name page, and getting the red text “Failed to discover a data server on this Host” please ensure that the host has the IADS Server (CDS/WinCDS) installed and that the machine is logged in. Without a login, there is no Commander.exe process running (which is what the wizard is trying to connect to) When the Wizard successfully connects (by name or IP) the red text will go away.
Verify that commander.exe is running on the target machine. If it is, you likely have a non-windows firewall issue or perhaps a network issue.

I'm trying to create a new OpConsole file using an L3 MFT Vista connection, but every time I do I'm running into an issue where IADS isn't accepting the computer host name that I'm putting in. It says that it's failing to find a data server on the host machine. I've made sure that I've put in the correct name of the IADS PC and I've also tried the IP with no luck. Any ideas?

Marcel,
Re-installing would ensure that everything is in working order. If someone deleted that folder, who knows what other files were removed or what other items have been reconfigured.

Zachary,
What is the data source type and is Operator Console installed on the same hardware as the IADS Server components and possibly the data source?
“Wait to Receive Acknowledge from Server... localhost” looks as if localhost was used to define the Data Host; Data Host is the hardware providing the raw data to IADS.
Is this a new set-up or one that has worked previously?
Thank you,

Hey Mike,
I am having the same problem but the commander.exe is there.
some of the pop-ups we get after we select "Start the Data Gather" with in the IADS OpConsole is "-Wait to Receive Acknowledge from Server... localhost- Client Connection Terminated... localhost"
and then another pop-up comes up reading "AttachCDS0 Failure in StartCDS0"

Zachary,
Please check your firewall settings to determine if there is anything preventing the recognition of the device name.
Localhost should work as should the hostname or IP address of the system.
If none of them are working then what has changed with your network settings since it previously worked?
Can you ping from a command window localhost or the actual hostname/IP of the system?

That sounds like malformed or stale DNS data. Localhost will always resolve to 127.0.0.1 whereas its possible for the ipAddress of MachineName to change unless you are using static IPs (which I would recommend using in a control room environment) dynamically changing IP addresses require reliable DNS infrastructure or you will end up with stale cached values at the name lookup phase.
Using Localhost for a control room setup will ultimately fail when “localhost” is sent out to Clients… at a bare minimum, use the locally addressable IP value of the server machines.

That also sounds like a firewall issue. It sounds like the OpConsole is now able to connect to port 58003, but not directly to the running CDS application on port 58001

I just realized my response wasn’t particularly clear.
In order to get that error – there should in fact be a CDS running, but the OpConsole is unable to directly connect to the CDS application on port 58001. CDS could mean either WinCDS.exe or ComputeDataServer.exe.
The connection to the server on port 58003 would be to the Commander.exe. This connection looks successful or it wouldn’t be possible to get the ’Server Reports Process is: ( Running )’ message

When you receive that error combo – please perform 2 things as quickly as possible.
From an Admin command prompt “netstat -banp tcp > C:\Temp\netstat.txt” ß you must have a folder with permission to write at C:\Temp
Examination of that file should show a Local Address of 0.0.0.0:58001 assigned to the CDS.exe
If you don’t see this line, verify that the CDS is running.
Do you have any files at all in the Logs folder of the declared output directory?

Excellent, that’s precisely what I was thinking and why I asked for logs.
