Hi.
I generated a complicated IADS display window(s). All the different
parameters in the display have the format A_(name of parameter).
What is the most efficiant way, if any, to doplicate the display BUT
assgining/change all the parameters names to B_(name of parameter) ?
Thank's alot
Tomer.

Tomer,
If you want to globally replace the parameter from A_PARM to B_PARM and
every instance of it in the system then you would use the Global Parameter
Replace Dialog under the Tools toolbar in the config.
BUT if you want to just replace the name of the parameter in a given
analysis window then I would suggest you either use the "Identify Displays"
feature in the Parameter Tool to find and replace every instance of the
parameter.
OR export the analysis window, open it up in notepad and use Search and
Replace. Once you have done that you can import it as a copy or replace the
original one.

Tomer,

You can do a Global name change of all A_name parameters to B_name
parameters, but this will change those names everywhere within the
database, effectively removing the A_Name parameters. Is this what you
need?

If you only want to change certain windows, but want to keep all your
A_name parameters and whatever other displays use them, you could do
the same thing as above, export your modified windows, delete the
windows from IADS, undo the global replace, then re-import the
windows.

Doing the same thing slightly differently, export your windows, import
them into a blank IADS config, do a Global rename, then export them.
You could then import them into your working configuration.

If you need help using the Global rename, let us know!

Hi Adam,

Several times I have my Alpha-Numeric not display the (float) value of parameters already selected.
The engineering unit (like DEGREES) and the "Alpha" name (BEARING) are still there, the "Go To Definition" still shows the correct parameter's name, but for some reasons, the "digit" value is not, and I have to "drag" it again from Parameter Tool. This happens so frequently.

I appreciate if you have any suggestion for this.

Thanks,
Quincy

Quincy,
Is the parameter you are using a derived parameter?
Is the parameter an IAP?
Is this in real time or Post Test?
Make sure that any input parameters are working during these times of no
data and that your equation is valid.

Hi Mike
Thank you for your answer...let me clear things up a little and make
sure I understood your solution:
I have a very big config file with lots of parameters which arrange in
such way they have initial which is diffrent and name which is similar
to all, for example A_name1, A_name2, B_name1, B_name2 and so on.
I created some analysis windows with quit a lot of parameters , most
of them are ActiveX Text with dynamic rules. For now, I used only the
parameters with initial A, and now I want to creat another window(s),
duplicating the perivios ones but with all parameters having initail
B.
To see if got your suggestion right, what I should do is open a post-
flight server without running data server first, and import my windows/
displays into it. This should pupolate my parameter diffult table with
all the parameters in the display. I should then do a Global rename to
initail B and then export the new window.
Is that so?

Another quistion if I may:
I have a parameter, which should be bulid up from 8 diffrent
parameters, each of which should repesent a single HEX character in
the parameter. What whould be the right way to implament this ?
(simple adding the parameters and creating a derived parameter wont do
the job

Thank you in advance.

This should work. Export each the analysis windows that you wish to
clone, then import them into an "empty" config which you can create
from your post-test server. Rename all your parameters to their new
names and then export the windows again. When you re-import them into
your original - big- config, IADS will prompt you to overwrite or make
copies. In your case, you're probably going to want to make copies.
Back up your config and give it a shot. It almost takes as long to
wrote as it will take to do.

There are several ways you can do this in IADS, if I understand the
question. You might start by searching this discussion group and the
IADS help topics for the terms DECOM and MakeBlob, as there are some
interesting discussions on this topic. Then let us know if you still
have questions.
