hello all,

here are the notes from the groups that are anchoring (so far) the efforts to create a massive mobilization during the International AIDS Conference in Washington, DC in July of 2012.  Note that there will be a big full coalition meeting in DC on Wed. June 29th, 2011 from 11am-2pm @ Public Citizen 1600 20th St. NW, caddy corner from Dupont Circle N Metro entrance.

Anchor Organization Call

IAC Mobilization

June 24, 2011

Attendance:  Akudo, Matt, Jennifer, Health GAP; Mike, Megan, Queerocracy; Jeremy, VOCAL-NY; Christine, Larry, Housing Works; Julie Davids, AFC; Marsha Jones, C2EA; Amanda, ASC; Jose, ACT UP Philly;

1.     Platform:

a.     Comment from AFC:  big giant thing missing is domestic work on healthcare reform

b.     Comment from ASC:  add policy solutions around migration (global).  Amanda will send language.

c.      Comment from Housing Works:  Sex and sexuality education in all settings.

d.     Will be a draft for quite some time.  Used as an outreach document.

e.     Comments on next draft by noon on Tuesday, June 28th (in prep for meeting on June 29th)

f.      VOCAL-NY, C2EA and AFC will get comments in before Wed.

g.     Agreed Decision:  Organizational sign ons and comments on platform only.  Platform issues must have an active campaign from a supporting organization (an organization has policy expertise, has people who can talk to media, is working on the issue outside of this coalition)OR issues that no group is actively working on because of capacity but every supporting organization approves and believes that this coalition can be used to further a policy solution.  Platform issues must have a solution (power must be told what to do to fix the problem)

2.     Different Levels of Participation

a.     What does it mean to be an anchor organization?  Organizations have to either give money, contribute significant resources to the mobilization (i.e. a staff person) and be willing to participate in collective fundraising, including using foundation contacts.

3.     Outreach to other groups for Wed.

a.     Focus should be on groups that might either be anchor organizations, or have significant turn out capacity.

b.     Larry will reach out to contacts

c.      Akudo will follow up with AFL CIO and NGLTF, as well as DC based LGBTQ orgs.

d.     Amanda will outreach to Black AIDS Institute, NAACP and a list of other orgs.

e.     All others will do outreach to their contacts, etc.
