We Can End AIDS 2012 Mobilization on July 24th, 2011Planning Meeting

I. Update about where we are:
a. Number of anchor groups from US
b. Other groups that have signed on to do some other work from the U.S.
c. Recently held a meeting with International partners. Some of them are signing onto be anchor groups (see notes from outreach committee below)
II. Status of Fundraising Plan
a. David Purdy drafted a plan and it went out on the list.
b. $50,000 from MAC AIDS Fund to Housing Works
c. $10,000 from Sparkplug
d. $10,000 from John M. Lloyd Foundation
e. David Bryden followed up with Michelle from Freeman Foundation
f. Sean Strub and Peter Staley to be approached? (to be discussed later in meeting)
g. John Barnes-from Funders Concerned About AIDS was approached for next meeting
h. David Purdy and Amanda Lugg are both going to be speaking about IAC organizing, but we didn’t get a whole panel on our march and they are also representing other groups. They will coordinate their presentation and raise up We Can End AIDS mobilization.
i. Idea-Put where money comes from on the website
j. Raise a few thousand off of the internet
i. Ask ACT V-Matt and David B. will reach out to Leigh Blake
ii. Attached to WAD-pitch $10 a piece
iii. Attach it to a petition/platform for sign ons
iv. Ask the website team to create-crowd source
k. Set up an indigo-Dave Purdy
l. Corporate sponsors
i. Any corporation makes profit by exploiting people
ii. Send proposal to Jerry at Ben & Jerry’s-was approved to submit proposal, but any additional steps will need to be reviewed by committee.
m. Process for getting corporate sponsorships
i. First, fundraising committee will ask for permission to submit to submit proposals
ii. Second, fundraising committee will recheck before accepting money if there are stipulations
iii. Fundraising committee will create a sponsorship package, grid on google doc.
n. Job for everyone in the room
i. Need you all to be sales people
III. Outreach and Engagement
a. Will translate all materials into English and Spanish (official languages of conference): ACT UP Philly (Viviana)
b. International Anchors: World AIDS Campaign, TAC, NEPHAK, Stop AIDS Campaign (UK), Restless Development (UK), TTAG. Likely to get ARASA (S.A.). TTAG is also organizing. Liked Economic Justice lense.
i. People were excited about idea of local actions at same time we do action. Couple of regional actions were preferred over tons of local demos.
c. Held an international call with partners: excitement
d. As groups sign on add to website
e. AMSA will tutorial/tool kit for outreach (including sign in sheets, tips for organizing,
f. Larry Bryant, HW-meeting with 140 black organizations. Close to getting NAACP to sign on. They were brainstorming idea of holding a welcome reception (with Congressmembers?).
g. Taking a look at geographic diversity-outreach done at USCA
h. Outreach to OccupyTogether
i. VOCAL will outreach to NPA, CCC, Right to the City, New Bottom Line, local housing coalition in NYC
j. Upcoming Conferences: American Bar Association

i. SGAC and AMSA will bottom line a series of student organizing call for all student groups to join.
IV. Logistics:
a. If your event is before 6pm, you won’t be officially endorsed by IAC because it conflicts with their workshops.
b. Benefit of getting their official endorsement is free media and publicity from IAC.
c. There is an application form that we have to fill out-did someone agree to do this???
d. Andy will bring back a question to IAS: What is scheduled Tuesday and when will it end
e. Send communities you want to “anchor” at a meet up spot or issue to mat...@healthgap.org (for example, HIV treatment activists meet up for march, or sex workers meet up for march). Logistics committee consisting of David Purdy, Larry Bryant, Matt Kavanagh and others (please join, particularly if you are in DC) will identify locations.
V. Platform
a. Numbers make it look like a priority list, so we should remove the numbers on the platform and simply bullet them-Matt will do that.
VI. Proposal
a. Idea of bringing on Nadine Bloch to help with coalition building
b. We need a coordinator-people seem to be demanding that
c. Try out hiring Nadine for a short period of time-part time

d. proposal to use some of the funding we have raised to support ongoing organizing efforts from these key groups who are leading the movement to be discussed by the anchor committee.
e. There will be an application process for groups to apply to the anchor committee for this support.
VII. Public Citizen Global Access to Medicines Project
a. Working with partners in a dozen different countries to take action to increase access to Kaletra. Abbott is target.
b. Kaletra in middle income countries costs $4000, lower income countries it’s still $2000. Too expensive.
c. Coordinated campaign will drive down price.
Next Meeting
All committees must meet in December
Next meeting is either Wed. Jan. 18th or the around next meeting of the IAC Conference Coordinating Committee (to get people from groups that meeting to attend ours). Steven reserved a space at Public Citizen for the next meeting.
