A detailed analysis on different questions of the Ballot is as follows:
1. Independence of Lokpal (Administrative, Functional, Financial) – 93% say YES
2. Inclusion of PM, Judiciary in Lokpal – 88% say YES
3. Inclusion of Lower bureacracyin Lokpal – 90% say YES
4. Lokpal must constitute Lokayukta for each state – 93% say YES
5. Lokpal must have powers to dismiss corrupt officer and recover losses – 92% say YES
Other Details:
A total of 36,851 votes were polled in 90 ballot boxes used by 50 volunteers over a period of 9 days (July 21-29). Voting was carried out at Market places, Colleges, Hostels, Temples, Darga, Government offices, Corporates, NGOs, Railway Station, Bus Stand, Banks, Hospitals, Public hangout places, Gardens, SLUMS, etc.
Highlights:
1. The retired people in 60s were real workhorse
2. People worked tirelessly without expecting anything in return
3. There were days when people worked for over 12 hours a day
4. Some with good jobs; took half day and full day leaves to work for referendum
5. Counting of mixed (partial) votes using excel sheet made counting so much easy
6. Colleges and corporates participated in the referendum quite freely
7. SLUM people were not that ignorant about Lokpal Bill; and seemed receptive to understand it.
8. Anna Hazare is a real Hero in the eyes of people, which is not a surprise in Maharashtra
9. People seemed cautiously optimistic
10. Volunteers were ready for a weak bill and they seem determined for civil disobedience.
