Hello,

I am about to send a mass email to my friends requesting donations for
the garage sale/NAF. I want to clarify a couple of points before I
send it. Hopefully Tina and/or Deb can respond and maybe this will be
useful for others to reference, too.

-Is there a set time-frame for people to deliver items to the church
on Friday or is it by arrangement? What about if they bring items on
Saturday morning?

-For the tax deductible donation, do the individuals donating
determine the amount of the items or do they get the amount that the
item sells for?

To answer your second question, I think the donors can determine the
value of their donations as long as they believe they can justify the
amount if the IRS comes after them. We should be recording the value of
the donations so that NAF can acknowledge them.

If people are both buying stuff and making additional donations, the two
should be separate, or we should keep track of the additional amount so
it can be acknowledged by NAF.

I will reconfirm but tax deductions are only availabe for donations. I have
asked that everyone that wants a tax deductible receipt from NAF provide
their name, address and value of items. I know Goodwill has a estimate
value of standard items. Clothing is usually @ $10 per item. I will trust
people to value appropriately. Also it would help if people could place a
price tag on the items.

Deb I can come over on Thursday to help price. If people can help on
Friday, Deb & I plan to transport what is at her house to the church. We
can use whatever help is available. Deb & I will also get to the sale early
to set up. Any other volunteers would be helpful.

I believe Deb can accept items anytime. You may want to call her to

Any suggestions on the easiest way to tag prices on clothes items?
safety-pin on? I think you are saying that you can claim $10 per item
for taxes on clothing items, but about how much do clothes sell for at
garage sales?
Deb, how much space do you have to store items at your house? If
bigger items (like furniture) are delivered to your house, will you
have help to transport them to the church on Saturday?
I will try to make myself and/or my husband available on Friday
afternoon. What time and where (Deb's or church)?

We plan to transport friday. I prefer earlier so as not to hit commute traffic. I took day off work.

Dawn,

I am not sure how much things will sell for, it is always negotiable at a
garage sale. I have only been to one. We can always price slightly higher
than reduce as necessary.

I am going to post a schedule to find out who is coming and at what time.

On Friday the 25th I need to be finished by 4 at latest, I have a commitment
that evening and traffic is horendous after 4 back to Marin..

I just finished sending a schedule, unfortunately I am not available after 4 on Friday, I live very far away so I need to be finished by 4, hopefully we will have enough help before the sale.  Thank you for your offer though.
