I haven't heard anything from Tina or the group recently. Has
everyone been busy? I just wanted to follow-up on the "to do" list
from the meeting (posted below). I didn't get many edits from the
group. The IAAD event is nearly a month away. Shall I go ahead and
have Lori send the letter to the NorCal members as is?
Deb, any update on storing items at the church on Friday?

Dawn to do:
-Write a draft of letter to send to NorCal members (informing them of
IAAD garage sale)

Mike to do:
-Flyer for event (or short letter to get companies to donate)

Tina to do:
-Contact Lori for more info regarding tax deductible receipts (what
info do they need in order to send receipts and does the amount need
to be the amount received for the item or a pre-determined amount by
the donor)

Deb to do:
-Find out if/how we can store items at the church on Friday

Jody please confirm whether you would be willing to keep track of the
money earned at the garage sale and send it to NAF again.

I am having trouble finding a copy of the Flyer for event (or short letter to get companies to donate)I was going to tweek from last year that you wrote. Do you have a copy of it so I can get started on it tomorrow?

 

Also I have been busy with other health issue of which you are aware. I have to meet with the surgeon on Aug. 5th. No date for surgery has been set yet, far as I know.

The Flyer is not what I was talking about, rather it was the ‘pledge form’. I sorry I guess I did not make myself clear. I found it in one of Earl’s fold files from 2008. I already have it partially tweeked and will attach it to this email.

Hi Mike,

I see what you mean now.  The document formatting looked funny when I opened it.  I'm not sure if that is something on my end.

That form seems to be designed more for a walk/race event.  I have a letter (that I sent to companies last year) that might be of use, but then again, it may be too wordy if you are going to the companies in person.  It has more background about ataxia and an explanation of the event..  Let me know if you want me to post it.

Dawn, First, thanks for keepiing the ball rolling.  Seems as if I don't have anything to do before the event, but during I will be willing to set up and take charge of the soda and chips, etc. sale.  Just have to figure out with Tina how much to buy, as she offered to get them from Costco.  Also, I will be willing to pass out receipts, but --- I caution all of you who are going  with the idea that we can keep track of each and every item sold, and list it on a separate receipt for the donor.  I vote for handing a receipt to each donor with the Group name, and date.  The donor should be responsible for putting a value on the slip - just as it is done by Goodwill or the Salvation Army. We may be able to keep track of any large items  I also vote, as you requested, Tina, go ahead with the letter.  Has anyone thought of change and dollar bills?  We are bringing books and small items which will sell for 50 cents, one dollar, etc.  Rebecca --- On Sat, 8/1/09, Dawn Pollak <daw...@gmail.com> wrote:

I spoke with Lori at NAf and they have to issue the tax deductible receipts, so we need to keep a record of people who donate.  The people who buy do not get the tax reduction.

 

I can still buy drinks or if you want to that is fine.  I don't know how much I guess we will need several 12 packs; we need ice coolers and ice.  If you want to handle great.

 

I asked Jody about handling money but I have not heard back.

Tina, We can keep a record of donors, no problem, but listing each and every item sold during the day just won't be feasable.  People donating should list their items before dropping off.  I am not going to worry about my things, as they are all small.  Yes we will need coolers. Debbie, how about space at the church?  I think I remember that we will have to purchase ice, as there is not a large source at the church. Correct? We will need to gather coolers from people.  I have at  least three.  Can everyone sign up to bring coolers?  The group has some.  How many, Debbie and King? Tina, if you wish, I can send you an advance check for some amount (you
name it) for seed money for the change pot. Just let me know the amount
you would like and remind me of your mailing address.

Also, I will not be at the October meeting :-( as I have a chorus
retreat that weekend.
