Hi all,
AfNOG
together with Internet Society (ISOC) whose goal is to increase the
technical capability for Internet operators and users alike as well as
advocate the use of opensource software and promote it use; will come do
a training in Arusha from the 24th to 28th September, 2012. The
training is five-day supplemental workshop and is designed as part of
the AfNOG 2011 Workshop on Network Technology, initiative and was last
held last year in March prior to the last AfNOG meeting in Dar es
Salaam, Tanzania, on May 29th 2011. The training will we be advertised
nationally i.e mailing lists, newspapers regarding this workshop and a
committee will screen candidates.
The dates for the training are:FreeBSD Unix training - 17th - 21st September 2012 (5 working days)
This course held for those students needing some intensive,
hands-on training to introduce them to core UNIX operating system
concepts as well as fundamental network concepts.
Topics covered include:
UNIX Operating System Overview
Operating System Commands
Directory Structures
Disk Partitioning Schemes
Privileges
vi Editor Usage
Network Layers
Core Network Protocols
Network Configuration
Network Debugging Tools
Who
should attend: AfNOG 2011 attendees who are not proficient at with the
use of the UNIX or Linux operating system and for those wishing for an
introduction to fundamental networking.
Prerequisites: Basic computer experience.
Non
selected participants may be expected to pay a registration fee to
attend and will also receive certificates on completion of the training
workshop.
Methodology
The
training outcomes will be achieved through the use participatory
discussion methodologies such as team work, hands-on sessions, case
studies and few lectures.
Training prerequisites
Experience with any operating system is helpful, but not mandatory.
Target Participants
This
training would be beneficial for public and private officers looking
for IT Professional Certification such as; PC Technician, Field Service
Engineer, Senior Computer Technician, Network Technician, Systems and/or
Network Administrator, Systems Analyst, Senior IT Manager. However,
university students studying ICT courses and experts with Linux hands-on
skills are encouraged to participate to certify their competency.
Training Fees
The
fees for the training is valued as Tshs 500,000 per participant;
fortunately ISOC has offered scholarships that basically covers the
following:
i. Training cost
ii. Breakfast and Lunch

Duration and Venue
This is
a one weeks program, scheduled to start on 17th September to 21st
September, 2012 from Monday to Friday (8:00 - 16:00). The training will
be conducted at JR (http://www.jracharya.org) Technical College, Computer Lab.
Facilitators
A
team of two Certified FreeBSD operating system Professionals capable of
delivering quality training will be available as well local trainers in
attendance.
Awards
At the end of training session, successfully participants will be awarded Certificate of Attendance from AfNOG/ISOC and ALUG.
