I vote primarily Democrat, but in my County we do not have a Deomcratic
cadidate for Sheriff. We have a new Republican candidate running against
our incumbant Sheriff. There's also a mixed variety of supervisors and
clerks running for county office. I want to vote for whoever I want to, but
I have to chose for a Democratic or a Republican ballot. Now I've seen
ballots where you *could* vote a straight ticket, but that's not what I
want to do. So I want to see our incumbent Sheriff win again. So, for this
primary, I have to become a Republican. Never mind my Democratic friends
that I favor for supervisors. Why the hell can't I just vote for the good
guys and be damned who their playmates are? It's the American way, I guess.

No idea why. I took a course in American Government once, but it
was 25 years ago (holy crap) and don't recall that it got into the
local processes.

Hope all is well!

Why am I not surprised to see your reply! You have been a faithful follower
of all the newsgroups we frequented in the old days. This one here has been
dead ever since OBama got in (or maybe even before that).

All is well. I'm just getting older is all... :-)
And yourself?

Guess I'm just compulsive about checking in. It's pretty easy
with the newsreader I use, especially when the traffic is low.

Aren't we all. :)

Not bad at all. Work is busier than ever, and challenging to
boot. I got to head up the team that took a new product before
the relevant FDA advisory panel last fall, with a favorable
outcome. Lots of travel, especially to China and Japan, for
meetings with regulatory authorities in venues outside the USA.

With all the travel, I don't get out on my bike as much as I used
to, so struggle with excess weight more than ever. Just don't
seem to find the willpower to pull away from the feedbag.

Family is okay, Kathy will be going to half-time teaching this
coming fall. She has family members in poor health, so has been
making relatively frequent trips back to Nebraska.

The two of us have been taking ballroom dance lessons for a few
years now, and are actually getting somewhat proficient at it.
The waltz seems especially enjoyable.

Our oldest is divorced, but has since found a girlfriend--they
live in Urbana, IL. He works for a software company. Middle son
is in Sommerville, MA with his Albanian girlfriend who he met
while there for the Peace Corps. He's studying and applying for
the foreign service. Youngest son is recently married, and
stationed in Okinawa. He flies KC-135s, and just deployed to
Qatar this week.

Best,

Ted
